The interesting gimmicks don't come until later. The initial reveal is always "Pokemon, again"

Just so happens that the starters are about as exciting as a pile of bricks this time around

*sees Pokémon Trainer in a soccer outfit.*

Me: Oh boy, am I hyped for this game! I can't wait to see what the water type starter is!

The gimmick is the player character can fight the pokemon and you'll have to equip gear like a typical rpg. Hence sword and shield. They're not referencing legendary pokemon they're version exclusive legendary equipment. And then they'll turn out to also be hibernating pokemon anyways in pokemon Accessory Slot that you can only awaken in that game.

Better designs than the previous couple of em which were somewhat worse than these starters we've seen so far
Evil team is spreading pollution
Morality differences in the versions
Rebalancing of some of the power creep from gens 4 and 5
Less giant boobs and sugestive themes and swastikular outlook than I've heard and interpreted in Sun and Moon

The franchise is bringing back to their origins, tho...

Same here. Can't wait to see the evolutions.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one, but its a little disappointing how close it looks to the 3ds games visually. Obviously Pokemon isn't a game you play for the visuals, but I can't help but feel like they could have done more with the art.

im interested in seeing what secondary types they end up being. i'd laugh if scorbunny ended up being fire/fighting because that's honestly what it's looking like

They also did that with Blaziken, Infernape, and Emboar tbh.
