Hey, i need help, i want to make flash games, but i have no idea where to start i need to know what type of Flash program to use, i want to start with a free one, so i can get the hang of things, then maybe ill upgrade. I also want a good tutorial on how to start making flash games, e.g. a simple side scrolling game like Metroid original, or something like that. Could anyone give information and possibly a link to the stuff i asked for? Thanks! Oh yeah i forgot to tell my system: Mac OS X 10.4.4 Laptop

First things first, Flash is over 100 bucks. <no discussion about illegal things here, sorry> ~Nacsecond, you can search up Flash tutorials to get you started on games. Maybe a little movie to start with.

If I were you, I'd get an older version. CS3 and Flash 8 are the best, and since CS4 came out, there prices have been going down.

it's not crap, it's probably more hard and complex to use, where the older ones are somewhat the same but simpler to use. And if you are to get it for free, piracy is to be done.

Well, for people who don't know much about Flash it's probably best to stick with CS3 or 8. I just think some of the things they have changed in CS4 have been for the worst and you can tell Adobe has bent it over and had their way with it - it was so much better when Macromedia called the shots.

I felt the same way with MX. when my school changed to CS3 I had no clue were anything was. then I eventually got used to it. then we changed to CS4 and we only had that for 2 weeks it was so complex to use. CS3 would be the best bet for flash, flash 8 would be second. try ebay. they may have something cheaper there.

HERE IS THE PROGRESSION!
Flash 9 > Macromedia Flash 8 > Adobe Flash CS4 > Macromedia Flash MX 2004 > Macromedia Flash MX > Adobe Flash CS3
CS4 improved the tweening system, making it very easy for beginners to learn, while screwing over everyone who used the older system, also leading to the ditching of those awful motion guides which nobody would use if they could possibly help it. It streamlined the Actionscript system, making it a lot more efficient and powerful.
CS3 is the black sheep of the bunch, the only problem with CS4 is the movement of the document tabs to below the timeline toolbar.
For those undoubtedly wondering what the hell I'm talking about when I say "Flash 9", it was the Beta copy of CS3 with a test build of Actionscript 3.0, and the new filter engine implemented (filters lag insanely less after CS3, anyone notice why?). Flash 9 had Flash 8's interface and CS3's power. It is also known for being the only legally free version of Flash. That is, if you could find it anymore. Adobe screwed up on the initial release, forgetting to put up any type of DRM. This was eventually fixed long after the fact.

As much as some of they may improve, you're actually wrong. It's a matter of opinions.
