I think you guys probably already know this (I haven't read back), but Bandai Namco is making the new game. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Tales or Tekken character in the new game.
As for new first party characters, I really would love to see Skull Kid/Majora and any characters from the RPG Mario games. Also, an updated Pokemon trainer with Mudkip, Grovyle, and Blazekin. Not that I don't like the original starters, but that's my favorite generation.

Still has nothing to do with Cloud specifically, only if they had a standard job based character, or from one of the spinoffs on Nintendo systems would it make sense. Cloud has never appeared in a Final Fantasy game on a Nintendo system (other than Theatrhythm) but since thats a spinoff it has less credibility. And thats a lousy reason to have Cloud in the game. They'd be better off with any character before VII or just a basic job based character like Black Mage or something.

Nintendo has deep roots with FF + FF's most arguably popular character.

I know, but why would they go out of their way to include a character who was never a Nintendo character, nor has ever appeared on a Nintendo system (again other than Theatrhythm). The current third parties at least have the quality of being on a Nintendo system prior to Brawl, and not through a spinoff.

Dont get me wrong, i like Cloud, i just dont see him being in Smash Bros as a logical choice. I understand how popular he is. I want to see him there too, i just dont think it would happen.

Edit: Unless there was like massive fan demand for him, i dont think they'd consider him. Plus they'd still have to get Squeenix's permission which is a hurdle in itself.

If they have to deal with licensing issues then they'd more than likely skip it unless there was moderate support for the idea. It only serves to delay the release of the game further, which actually costs them more money.

Either way, I still don't see Final Fantasy getting the Squeenix rep. I'd love it to, but I just don't see it.

Honestly, I don't see Square having a rep in the game.
