Hello all, my friends and I are in a band called Helping Hands. We just released our first demo, which is titled Juice.

It would mean a lot to me if you all gave it a listen :-)

Now Luke won't be the only one shilling out his music on /mu/

the whole midwest emo-y thing isn't my kind of music in the slightest so i dunno if my opinion holds any weight, but i liked Broken Record enough. Thanatophobia didn't really do anything for me but wasn't exactly bad
this IS just a demo though, obviously it's rough and there's a lot of room to improve

i'll check out your future stuff for sure

Thanks for the feedback, Scotty boy!

We've already started working on stuff for and EP, and I can say that the songwriting is already starting to improve (in my opinion)

We've also got things lined up so that we'll be recording in a professional studio next time around.

For those music producing enthusiasts that are laughing at me, yes, I know Audio Tool isn't the best DAW out there lmao. I just used it for the sake of getting into music production (and seeing if I actually enjoy it).
Regardless, after 5 days of experimenting, I made my first track. Mostly inspired by Sample-based Vaporwave (that OG s***).
Please tell me what you think. I hope you enjoy!

good choice in sample for sure, you've got a good idea going but unfortunately your timing with the beat isn't complementing the sound in the background so it's like you've got two different songs going at once, unfortunately. it's jarring. even if the kick was on time it isn't a terribly interesting beat, just a repeated 808 kick. it was a bit interesting when it repeated quicker at that one part but again, it was still off time lol. imo work on making very simple stuff first before you attempt to make something complicated like this, practice making tunes that stay in time and have simple melodies. from there you can learn what type of tunes you're able to competently make and what methods you wanna use to create em.

sorry if this is harsh, i dont mean to discourage you. for a First Song Ever you could do a lot worse, just practice with audiotool and start small and simple. you've got a long way ahead of you and if you keep practicing you'll find that most anybody can make music

also i released a noise split with Virtual Dreams, it's a free download right here. i'm quite proud of it https://neetspeak.bandcamp.com/album/lu ... th-rebirth idk if any of you guys are into noise but yeah

I released my second EP yesterday, and while I still know essentially nothing when it comes to making music, I'm happy with it.

very interesting ideas, i like the half/half theme you've got going. these are really relaxing soundscapes, if you really don't know anything about making music i'd say you're off to a pretty good start lol. dont be afraid to experiment is the only advice i can give you i think. "sonder" is really nice

Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate it a lot, and I'm glad I'm getting somewhere, even if I don't know exactly how.

I experiment a lot already, which is where most of my music starts. I never really have any ideas going in.

To expand on what I said, I don't know any music theory at all. I don't know scales or chords, and I only use Audacity, so it's hard to mess around with melodies, which is one of the reasons I mostly do drone-y stuff.
Like most things I do, it's just being able to tell what's good and what isn't, and then using trial and error until it switches from one to the other.
It's slow and inefficient, but it works.

Thanks again, anyway!

blackened crust industrial trap that might be powerviolence or grindcore or just powergrind (the jury's out)
