Some forums make differences between topics that has just been updated, and topics which you hadn't read.

I found that very usefull, since there are some topics which I don't like reading (such as "Found a typo somewhere on the site? Post it here!" ), but I would like to know if there is any new post since the last time I loged in...

There probably is a MOD for that, since is something very, VERY easy to code...

Code:
If there is an un-read post:
posted after the last time you logged in   ---> that topic is new
posted before the last time you logged in ---> that topic is old (un-read)

This is the most handy idea to come to the ideas section in a long time.

This would be so useful.

You'd think there'd be a mod for this, right? Though doing a quick google search I haven't found anything for phpBB3

phpBB3's coders have shown to be pretty useless :eew: .

Perhaps they made it too difficult, from what I remember editing phpBB2 at least looked relatively easy

this sounds like a good Idea to me!

I've been on several forums which do this, and it's FREAKING ANNOYING.
I think it's no help at all when you read one particular section with lots of posts, and sometimes get lazy and not read all of them right away.

So if it's gonna take you some work to do it, don't do it at all, I don't think It'll much help.

Wait, perhaps it would work to mark all posts as read every time you log out? Or if there was a way to automatically do that... Hm....

Please don't make it like phpBB2. Besides, there is a mark all topics read button that you can use if you're too lazy to check all the topics.

@Cleod9:

NO. Hell no... that's very troublesome if you want to leave something "for later"...
since you forget about it if it is tagged as "read".

This is how it should be done:

Best option:
All topics which you've read, marked as "read".
All "new" pots when you log in marked as "new".
All "new" posts after you log out marked as "un-read".

Average option:
Current one

Worst option:

Then we'd need an entirely different state for topics, I highly doubt there's a phpbb modification for that, and there's no way I could code it.

We're just going to have to leave it the way it is now, and if you want it to function like phpBB2 just mark all your posts read before you log out

:lock:
