As I said before, Viewtiful Joe's Assist Trophy status was just a mistake on the wiki, and I have McLeodGaming itself to prove it. PAC-MAN was leaked to be a playable character a while back, so he could jump from being an Assist Trophy to a playable character. They did it with Little Mac in SSB4. Luffy is NOT deconfirmed - he still has a chance, and I'd say a big one. I don't think we'd get Crono or Cloud, seeing the direction SSF2 is taking, though it'd be nice to have them. Same with Knuckles. I think Shadow is a better third Sonic rep anyway.

There has to be at least one unlockable Mario character, and if anyone, Bowser Jr. would be it.

I see majority of your points, but idk about Luffy. He hasn't been 100% deconfirmed, but from what I know the game is trying to move away from Anime characters due to the game being criticized because of it. Goku/Naruto fit in the game but Ichigo doesn't really, and since those three who all came out a while ago no Anime character has gotten hinted at at all. I also really hope he's not because I'm not a fan of anime at all.

It seems like the two Final Fantasy stages we have seems like a hint of more FF content coming, which may include Cloud Strife.

A lot of people are speculating more 3rd party reps, and I'm NOT saying it isn't likely but I think we're only getting 2 reps per company. For Example:

Sega= Sonic and Tails
Square Enix= Black Mage and Sora
Konami= BomberMan and ?
Namco= Lloyd and ?
Capcom= MegaMan and ?

So, my thinking is that we'll get Second reps for Capcom; Namco and Konami; those being Ryu/Shantae/Monster Hunter(Capcom), Snake(Konami) and Yugi/Tekken Rep/Pacman, these guys have a higher chance than anyone else. And before anyone asks/says why no Simon Belmont, its because the devs said they only added the Dracula's Castle because they liked it in Project M.

It is now, but I don't believe a Shantae game was released before January/February 2013(with the exception of the first obviously). Meaning that the property could have fell into Capcom territory at the time.

Errrm i just checked, only the gameboy color was capcom published, yeah wouldn't make sense to classify her as capcom anymore, example ->ppl don't classify skullgirls as konami today since it isn't published by it anymore.

To be honest, I don't think Shantae really fits into SSF2. We do get her in Smash Bros. Crusade v0.9.1 though.

Yes, I am. From what I know, the old DOJO!!s have a bunch of removed content (the Mama Luigi Assist Trophy for one), so they're pretty much fanon at this point.

I still think Shantae has a very good vhance at making SSF2, especially since the roster is overdue for an SSF2 exclusive grill.
