Your shading definitely needs more contrast between colors. I'd recommend maybe using 1 more color in your shading and using a darker shade of the base color when you are shading. Your portraits would look a lot better instead of you picking 1 base color and picking 1 darker color, you picked 1 base color(preferably darker than normal), 1 lighter color, and 1 darker color. Then focus on where the lighter spots are and the darker spots are and shading accordingly.

Theres actual 3 light colors if you look closely, but i'll improve.

Now since it's Spring Break, I have all the time to make tons of sprite models, this time I'll give you a list to what I'm going to do next, just to pressure myself.

The lineart is pretty impressive, but you should probably check out some shading tutorials for larger things like this.
