Anyway, do you understand what "shaky" is?

Not alot.

Nope. Google translator dont work, you can translate it, here:

From: English
To: Arabic

Shake: have you ever moved a object up and down in your hand....well that is what shake means. Another way of putting it, when you meet someone you know, you shake your hand with them

Shakey/Shaky (not 100% sure): that is how you discribe something that is shaking.
With the animation, the characters feet are ment to stay in place, this way the animation doesn't look shakey/shaky, but looks neat and smooth.

*sigh* =.= basicaly Wardek, a shaky sprite is a sprite that does not stay in place.

back to Eraser's example.

Image
The reason why this sprite is shaky is because it is not staying in one place. note that the sprite is moveing bacwards and forwards instead of staying put while doing his attack.

The reason why this sprite is not shaky is because he is staying put while completing his attack.

I hope you understand now.

Good. Well a shaky animations is basically shaking. 'shaking animation'. It does not stay in place when it should be.

'Shake' in terms of spriting, means that from frame A to frame B, there is no 'base point' - in other words, normally, feet. A base point is where the sprite will not ever move from; it can be a line, or even a pixl, but the sprite won't ever move from that. The base point is the center.

Don't be so ungratefull! You didn't understand something, and they tried to explain it to you. You could at least say thanks to the people who tried to explain it to you.

Easiest way of telling is the feet

If the character should be keeping his feet still, but the feet are all over the place, the animation is shaky

Now I have a question

Is it usually frowned upon for a sprite to have transparency?

i think it depends on what the sprites doing.

Because some sprites look better in darker/colored backgrounds. Some also have no outlines and too much white in it to be in a tranparent background (as most forums and sites have white as their standard color). This is mostly true for effects. :P

I think he means like... A weapon to have a transparant glow, like, semi transparant.

Anyway, no it isnt frowned upon, but it's impossible to do with gifs IIRC
