Probably for mind games. Like say you run off the stage trying to edge guard and they think you're going to use fair, but you change direction with down special and doing bair.

This also works if you try to use a RAR bair, but your input to turn around didn't register.

I've tried to incorporate it into combos and such and have succeeded on a few occasions. It definitely has its uses.

The most game-changing applications are probably

1. Coming out of tumble, allowing you to airdodge etc. I usually use side B for this since it stalls, but when you don't want a stall or don't want to deal with side B's endlag, a one frame aerial down B is an option that no other cast member has.

2. Allowing the use of back air from the ledge, keeping in mind that it requires a series of 5 precise inputs that are, as far as I'm aware, unfeasible online. If you mess any of the inputs up you either miss the stage and die or get a Fair instead of Bair and get punished. It's a high risk option, but Bair leads into so much that it's probably worth it offline.

You DK mains (more like pockets when Beta comes out LUL) better learn how to turn into a tech God, or else Falco/DK and Luffy/DK are going to seem like an 70-30 MU

I some combo that you can get from combining S-Spec and D-Spec which you can combo into a bunch of grab combos my favourites are:
S-Spec (you can S-SPec twice if about 15%) => D-Spec => Grab => F-throw off ledge => Giant punch/F-air
S-Spec X2 => D-Spec => Grab => D-throw Chains => F-air
S-Spec X2 => D-Spec => B-Throw {kills at high percents
}

Edit: dont listen to any of these they dont work at all.

I don't really see a down b following up to a grab. I see it following up to an uptilt, nair or upair instead unless ur talking about fox at low percentages. Landing a side spec is pretty hard but when you do, I guess it can follow up with a down b.

My favourite dk combo is down tilt to down throw to upthrow to uptilt to upair to dair to side spec to giant punch.

I was fighting a DK (with sonic) and every time I tried to approach he had something ready for me (using projectiles isn't an option, sonic has to get close). We were on Dreamland. I tried almost every trick I know (and as a sonic main that's saying something).
What sort of approaches would you guys recommend going up against DK?

also ^that combo is godly

Sonic vs DK is an awful mu for Sonic.

Although Sonic has the ground mobility, that's all he has.

DK, has better air speed, better range, combo game, better priority and can just stuff Sonic's approach.

You can try to space back air, but then you have to be careful because he can shield grab you or forward tilt you away.

Then Sonic doesn't really have kill power when compared to DK, who can combo into some of his kill moves. Bounce attacking a DK offstage is the best, but be careful of how they are moving.
