It's pretty useful as a situational combo finisher, and it can be used when Fsmash wouldn't tip.

The more I think about it, the more I realize Marth is actually kinda bad. He doesn't lose super hard to a lot of characters, but he doesn't perform that well against a lot of characters. The characters he beats he tends to beat hard, but he gets gimped/janked so easy.

This was basically the case in Brawl, the only characters he countered were the ones he outranged.

I say shorthop>airdodge works if you space it well enough.

That isn't exactly the easiest thing to do in online lol. Would look to use platforms to get above his horizontal space control. If he jumps onto the platforms to continue just get under him and juggle. Alternatively, anticipate when he will throw a clone and full jump for a perfect counterattack.

Not true. Marth countered most of the cast in Brawl, and some of those he countered outranged him.

He kinda needs it more than you think, especially with all the OHKO moves nowadays.

Mmm not really.

Take a look at his matchup chart. He counters all characters that are ether too slow, and/or he outranges.
All other characters are basically even if they have the speed, range, and or projectile prowness to combat him.

One thing I've noticed with side-b is that the third hit of the up combination can trip people up if they don't tech. It's a pretty useful mixup: use the full sideB once or twice, then stop on the third it of the up combination, jab reset, and wreck. Also, it's a very situational edgeguarding move for some characters.

I take back what I said about Marth....

Just looking at all the other characters with all this potential, really puts Marth in shame. I honestly consider him to a low/mid tier character at this point. He really doesn't stand out anymore.

I was wondering for a while now why Marth's felt so slow on the ground. His run speed is nearly identical to Mario's.

Marth has a bit of trouble getting quickly getting inside the space of his opponent's range when grounded. I was originally blaming this on his range being much shorter than his Melee one, but if he got a faster run speed, he could get-in quicker with his short-range like other speeders.

Yeah, I noticed he seemed a bit sluggish. This also contributes to a shorter-than-expected dash dance.

I was thinking the same due to his weird transitions from air-to-ground.

Speaking of which, does anyone here play a good Marth? Trying to learn the Mario vs Marth MU but I haven't encountered a good Marth yet, except maybe one.

I consider myself to be a good Marth, I've beaten quite a few people (including Cleod). I just don't play online very often because input delay annoys me lol.

I've found that distance isn't a problem, I played someone in Vietnam and the UK with the same input lag that I had against Cleod (he's on EC and I'm WC). Heck, I played against a friend online who was sitting right next to me (we were both connected to his LAN) and it still had noticeable lag. They can't do much about it, but it proves that offline is king :3

But anyways, sure I'd like to play. I have university tho, so we can see about a non-conflicting schedule.
