Not a Fan of One Piece but listening to the Devs how fun Luffy is, makes me want to play him once Beta is released. Thank you SSF2 Devs! :tails:

Long before he was announced I was pretty vocal about how bad of an idea Luffy would be.
I still need to look into gameplay for him, and ofcourse try him out for myself when Beta releases, but Luffy just sounds like a trainwreck waiting to happen.
3 command grabs and armor + a windbox on one of his moves. Again, I won't know until I try him out but he already sounds like a bad meme.
We've seen characters like Luffy be added into fighting games in the past and they're generally seen as either frustrating or just plain stupid. Most notably Kratos (PSAS) and Dhalsim (SF).
Now, you could argue that Dhalsim isn't so bad in his most recent iteration, but that's probably because Capcom has had years to fine tune him. McLeodGaming has nowhere near as much time.
We'll see what happens on release, but if he's as stupid as I expect him to be, I'm probably going to have the biggest 'I told you so' moment I've had in a while lmao.

I trust the devs and at times they get way less credit than they deserve. We'll see how it turns out.

If your judging all of this based off of what you saw at Smash Con then don't, I personally came up with 3 different combo's I plan on trying when I get Beta. Luffy is in an odd place where he can either be high tier or low tier, but that just depends on how well the character is used. He was used poorly by almost everyone who used him at Smash Con. There's also personal preference for using Luffy since only his special attacks grab, you can always play using his smash attacks and reserve his specials for combo staters and enders.

Luffy looks fine, the only thing I'm overly curious about is his downB. Can anyone confirm if the windbox have set KB? It should grow via %, mid-top level players will abuse this quality.

Also how does the hurt boxes on his extended limbs function, do they have any?

Other than that.. I love that we're seeing the team push boundaries. A character that plays like no other in any smash game, or any viable fighting game for that matter. A "ranged grappler," pretty incredible imo. I never seen a full episode of One piece, so I had no clue what to expect nor why people wanted him in the game though.

The wind box on one Luffy's moves looked incredibly stupid (the one where he expands himself). I saw it send Black Mage and Luigi flying across the stage. That's even more cancerous than the wind box on Shiek's ups-special. Plus it seemed to have super armor... God... Please help me. Seems like that would be an excellent tool for edge guarding Naruto.

all of these have had questionable implementation in ssf2 so far and have required rebalancing.
really hope that you guys get it right with luffy, these kinds of mechanics are really easy to make gimmicky or frustrating.

Yes, his stretchy limbs do have hurt boxes.
No, down-B doesn't have super armour, however it does have heavy armour.

Luffy is still heavily in development, so his finer details and balance aren't finalised. You don't need to be so worried.

Kratos wasn't even the threat of that game, it was Raiden, Cole and Kat something tells me you don't know what you're talking about. Kratos had a lot going for him but at the same time, he was more punishable than all the higher tiers above him along with that his grapple had range but that s*** was retardedly unsafe.
