Speaking of Kirby, it'd be pretty cool if Bonkers could appear as an assist.

Considering the fact we got Rosalina out of everyone pretty much solely for moveset potential, Bandana Waddle Dee isn't that far off.

But that's dumb too Make newcomers unlockable and you don't get to try them out as soon as you get the game Make veterans unlockable and you don't get to see if your mains are still good and s*** I've got nothing against unlockable content in general, just unlockable characters. There's a reason I did Stamina Flower Fast Brawl with a turbo controller to get through the menus when I got Brawl - I shouldn't have to play 450 matches just to use Wolf. In Melee, I shouldn't have to play 20 hours of matches to use Mewtwo. I shouldn't have to f*** beat the first stage of Adventure mode with a 2 in the seconds timer to use Luigi. it's just stupid

Prince Fluff could work well since he's made of yarn he can literally be anything he wants. I'd take him over meta knight honestly if he's done well.

I see what your line of thought here is, but are unlockables really worth it if they are just little thing like the trophies? When you unlock a new character you actually feel like you got a reward not just an award. The same goes for a lesser extent to stages, but a variety of rewards are better than the same type over and over. --- Oh man, I got an idea totally tangent to whatever I was just doing. What if each character had a mini adventure unlocked from the start that when beaten would unlock them for full play as an possible alternative unlocking condition. That way you could use your main/newcomer from the start, but only get to use them fully it you were any good with them/practice with them in a environment that taught you their strengths and how to overcome their weaknesses? (Some characters still being on the starting roster of course, but then those could only unlock their mini adventure buy beating unlockable character ones) I think that would be nice. A good balance of SE and not SE.

Knuckle Joe is a generic enemy and he's not gonna be in ever "But assist trophy!" Metroid, Hammer Bro, Lakitu. Helirin. It bothers me that Knuckle Joe gained some traction for no reason. Have you never played Super Star?? Has nobody ever played Super Star?? touche

I like unlocking characters too, it feels satisfying to unlock a new playable character. They should be relatively easy to unlock though. In brawl you could unlock all the characters through the SSE. I didn't mind that, since I was going to play it anyway.

I see your point Kyuub but I still feel like unlocking new faces is a s*** ton of fun and definitely the most valuable thing you can get in a fighter. Games with all the characters available at start just feel in a way empty to me. Like how all of Super Street Fighter IV's cast was unlocked at the start, even though many of the characters in the original had to be unlocked. It didn't keep me playing SSFIV long.
That said I see where you're coming from. Like I've said before, the best solution is an "unlock all" code that disables saving. It hasn't been done in Smash before, but hell, maybe Tonight's The Night™

I respect unlockable characters... but they're outdated, 12hrs after a games release no secrets exist anymore -_- ..so that feeling we once had as kids unlocking a new playable character ...that feeling of discovery and achievement ..is...is dead.
but fighting games get older even quicker for those who play them solo w/o unlockable characters. I personally don't really even care anymore.

It isn't dead, it's just different You might not be the one to, say, unlock Mewtwo in SM4SH and post about it on the Internet. But you can be part of that first group who yells OMG and FAKE and SOURCE f***** and OMGOMGOMG MEWTWO CONFIRMED It's a totally different kind of thrill. Your childlike wonder is dead, because you aren't a child anymore, but you can still get excited over which polygons you move by pressing buttons in the newest shelf product for $59.99. And if that isn't wonderful and beautiful and miraculous I don't know what is Weird tangent aside, fun is not dead. It just lives on in another form
