I'll try my best to explain for now, but it would really help if you gave more details.
Music:
To load music on to a flash movie, make sure your music is in a mp3 or wav format. Open flash and import the file into your library (File - Import - Import to Library) so you have it readily available. If you go to a frame, you'll see a properties tab, click it. Under the properties tab, you can add your music to a certain frame. You can also loop the music, stop it, add effects to it and other stuff.
I have no clue what your talking about with characters though, I would need more information.
