I think it's a pretty cool looking game, with all the stealth and killing creatively.
It was released on October 9(for north America at least), it is developed by arkane studios and, for the most part, has gotten pretty good reception.
Any thoughts?

Was interested until the rumors about it being short as f*** popped up.

It looks like a solid game, but I simply can't justify paying $60 for a game I can't get 20 hours out of. So I think I'll wait for a price drop.

Can anyone here speak about the length of the game?

I've heard the length if the game depends on how you play. A straight up run n gun playthrough will probably only last around 4-6 hours, while a no-kill stealth playthrough will probably last around 20. Who would want to gun through the game anyway though? It looks way more fun to play stealth.

That's probably true, but I find it hard to believe that playing it "correctly" can add 14-16 more hours to it. 5-6, sure, no problem. I could deal with ten or so if there was a ton of content. But 14-16 seems a bit steep.

If you think about the way a speedthrough is played as compared to a really stealthy and slow playthrough, I think that sounds about right.

It's not a speedthrough, though. I'm talking about playing it at a natural speed, just killing everyone rather than sneaking

It's apparently around 5 hours playtime to go through the main story & all sidequests, which really doesn't sound great. I don't want to have to deliberately slow down to get more than that amount of time for a full price game.

Pretty fun and challenging if you ask me ^_^

Allow me to say : Bull. f***. s***.

The main story, I can believe, if you rush through that and don't go stealth. All the sidequests? You'd have to be "finish portal in 7 minutes" level of speedrunner to pull that off. With all runes/bone charms? Impossible.

I'm currently at 8 hours, and I'm right outside the room to assassinate my first target. I've gone out of my way to collect all the runes/bone charms, which sent me to three full areas that you could otherwise completely avoid. (two of which I needed to go through in order to complete the sidequests)

Granted, I've lost a lot of time messing around with possible different ways to approach the mission, lots of reloading while getting the timing right to not get spotted and such, so I could easily shave off a few hours, but 5 hours, I just don't see happening.

that's fair enough, it's good to hear this from someone who's clearly actually played the game. it's especially good to hear this because i do want to pick it up, i was just worried due to the aforementioned rumors.

Don't listen to the rumors about gameplay time.

The game is very long. You'll be scratching your head several times on really challenging missions and strategies to approach your foes. However, the weapons and powers it provides you to perform these challenges are worth it.

People started spreading rumors that Deus Ex was 5 hours when it first came out. They were full of s***, too.

I actually heard from a friend myself that the game is short, and he's the sort of guy that tends to screw up often. He's played through it multiple times since he first got it as it's so short. This is including sidequests.
