Hey guys, Starkiller2 here, or rather, no longer here. I'm writing this to say that I am leaving SSF2.
I've stopped playing it for about a week now, because it seemed so repetitive. I can't play against any humans, I can't stream, and although I enjoy making videos (and I've gotten positive feedback on my videos) I can only make so many, and in fact the recording part is the worst part (and that's half the battle). I almost feel robotic, doing the same things over and over. I tried out new characters (for those that don't know, I main Fox) and exclusively played other characters for a couple weeks, including CF, Zelda, DK, and Lloyd. I haven't played Fox in almost a month, and considering he is supposed to be my favorite that seems weird, right? That's when I realized that SSF2 wasn't fun for me anymore.
It's not drawing my interest.

This game I have enjoyed for over a year now, and I'm done with it just like that? Well, it's more complicated than that. I have become more involved in the community on MG, but at the same time I don't feel like I fit in. Perhaps this is something from my childhood, as I've never truly fit into any group but that's just me thinking. I even became a Back Room member, imagine that? I loved the forums then, but when I go to them now it all seems different. Like I keep coming to this place for a different reason than when I started.

This isn't exclusive to SSF2 for me either. It was a hard decision, but I'm also stopping super smash bros melee too. I've been playing that game for a while too, but for similar reasons I'm stopping that too. I won't go into detail, but my brother opened my eyes when he said that he doesn't want to play smash with me when he said that I am the reason he doesn't like melee. I was already feeling this way when I went to a PM tourney on this past weekend. I sat there, on my last life of the tournament and contemplated just walking my character off the stage. That may not seem like much, but that was huge for me, I've never given up on anything that's meant something to me. It would be like an athlete just walking off the court because they couldn't make up the score gap---i was going to give up. I didn't, but after the game I realized that there were too many good players, and I don't have the time, interest, or money to try and make up the $100+ dollars this new university student has already spent on the game.

Some of you know I play League of Legends. Yeah, I'm a silver 4 player who just dropped to silv4 just before the end of the season. I decided that I don't have the interest in that to get better either.
At least not in soloQ. The community in that division is terrible.

Some last thoughts before I close this off. I'll still be around, I will still play smash but I'm not going out of my way to play (and certainly not to pay). On MG, I won't be active, but if u PM me I'll probably respond cause those go to my email. I'm still helping someone out with a project for SSF2, so I'll still help there but I'm no longer going to purposefully view the forums as I once did.
As for the back room, I have some thoughts. If we have 20 something members but only 10 or so are active, why are the inactive ones still in? In addition, we have devs in the BR. I am under the impression that if we have devs who know for a fact how the game goes why do we even need a BR? The devs can always override any discussion with their knowledge of the inner workings, so it almost seems redundant to need slightly above average players to discuss things. This is why I don't like devs, honestly. I understand that there are incorrect statements, and I am far from infallible, but to me it seems that the BR is ruled by a small handful of this handful of players, and this handful of a handful are either devs or have been in the BR long enough to be basically one in terms of knowledge. It's frustrating, and although I've grown more knowledgeable I can't say or do anything without expecting to be disproven (and I know that's a part of the BR, but when a dev can always come in and do so why does the BR exist?). I go over my old application (the one on the separate website) and wonder how I even got in, the group seems to have lower standards than I originally thought. And yet, the group doesn't need new players to accomplish things (if that sounds negative, well, that's how I feel). I also thought the BR was going to be more active, coming up to the release of the tier list there were more posts during that week than in the entire time I've been in the BR. Probably the most annoying part is all the theory stuff that is stated but need actually seen/used since there are so few tournaments for this game.

Maybe when the new version comes out in January I'll see about getting back into it, but until then I don't have any plans on returning.

Starkiller2, I respect your decision. In order to be a competitive player, one has to have a drive; and if that drive is no longer there, then there is no purpose in continuing. Its sad to see you go, but this will provide you with a well deserved break. I hope that one day you will return to SSF2, however that decision is entirely up to you. I will certainly miss you. Goodbye, I wish you well in your future endeavors.

just because you stopped playing some stupid games doesn't mean you A) need to leave the forums, or B) need to make a bigass deal out of leaving said forums

this looks more like a grab for attention than an actual departure

I don't even play ssf2 anymore, and I still stick around. Cause you know what?

Why not?

I'm sad to see you go: you've always been a great help in the discussions on the forums, and you can still stay and discuss, as I'm sure the community will appreciate you. If you don't though, it is a road you take, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.

Thanks, and have fun.
