Nobody said they automatically get a rep. That's just how it seems to have worked out for some characters.

I don't know where you're getting I don't like Wii Fit Trainer. All I said was a character doesn't need to be significant to get in, Wii Fit Trainer is a beacon of light for characters that have 'no chances whatsoever'. There is no non-clone character that would get in that I would hate, even if I didn't play them myself, a diverse roster of opponents always make a game better.

Only if she gets some sort of background or a personality. Hell, they didn't care enough to even give her a name, even a name would would be something. In Wii Fit she isn't even a character, she's just an avatar, you have to have characterization to be a character and you have to be a character before you can be a significant character.

Since when does hugely popular = finding a way to get a fully playable character in = the only way to rep a game? I can name quite a few games that didn't need a playable character to be represented in the game. Sort of the whole reason behind assist trophies + a few stages.

Did you forget what you're arguing? It's not about how the franchises are represented, we're talking about which franchises are supposedly significant enough to be represented, and what gives them that significance.

Her name is Wii Fit Trainer. She's a health nut, and rather stoic. She obviously leads a very healthy lifestyle, and wants to help others lead such a lifestyle as well, thus her job as a trainer. In Smash Bros, she likes to use moves that will contribute to her health rather than moves that would give her an edge on the competition. From that, it's logical to assume that she doesn't take the actual fighting too seriously, and would rather have an enjoyable time while bettering herself than try to just beat her opponents.

Or are you trying to imply that simple personalities are not personalities at all? Because that would be almost as stupid as implying that a character requires a personality to be a character.

What would be cool if Miis worked like costumes. Instead of having their own moveset you can put them over which character you're playing as. That way players don't get to miss out on playing with themselves if they don't like playing whatever Mii's moveset would be.

Well, in that case all you would really need is the Mii's face over Link's, and the clothes would change according to the Mii color. This could apply to most characters, I could see some issues popping up with Kirby and Pikachu, though.
Still, I'd prefer it to a different character.
