You don't need to play DS before you play DSII for the same reason you don't need to play Dead Rising before you play Dead Rising 2

They're both good games but you don't have to tell yourself you can't get one before you get the other

besides, there's trophies (and fun?) so it's never a total waste

My point is that (from what I've played) DSII is the better game and why would you not play the better game first
