Pit maybe?
This all started when I found an article on screw attack/death battle about who would win between sora and pit. In my brain I immediately thought: There's only one way to find out. But then I realized that ssf2 and brawl may be too similar and pit would be not-so-uniqe character like in brawl. Yet they could do some really cool stuff with pit like maybe the hammer from some of the original games, just as an example. What do you guys think?

So far I've came out with many theories of which characters will be in SSF2, I think most of the characters will be from the GBA/NGC era and some part of the DS/Wii era.
These are the ones I thought would make sense if they are in by the release of the v1.0:
*Note that some of my choices are from SSB4, and that the characters from that game are actually veterans now (this includes Mega Man).

Surprise characters (Any important/high fan base character that has appeared in at least one Nintendo console game. Cleod is the new Sakurai so I SO don't expect Simon Belmont who a lot of people have been asked for ever since Bomberman was confirmed. *sarcasm*)
These are just my opinions on who should be in. I also think another Sonic and Anime characters will make it in, but these are below of my other choices.

OMG, I just got the craziest idea ever... how about DOOMGUY! (Doom, duh). I remember playing that a lot on the SNES, so it's on a nintendo console. He could operate like a mix between solid snake from brawl and megaman in ssb4. No orb attacks! SO overdone in all smash bros games. Gun based slow combat with strong, yet slow melee attacks. I imagine his movement speed being like ganondorf in brawl. The sprite could be like the one they used in death battle (Master Chief vs. Doomguy) with slight adjustments.
I'm not sayin I think it's likley, but it'd be cool.
