Previous Seasons:
SEASON 1 - [|||||||||||||||]
SEASON 2 - [|||||||||||||||]

The Flash Collective Rankings is my personal ranking system for SSF2, based on the results of Smash Island, X, Hypest, and any other major tournament to attract attention.

The way it works is simple:
  • Each tournament has a weight, based on the number of players who checked in to the tournament. This distinction is important.
  • The winner of the tournament gets X points, where X is the weight of the tournament. A tournament with 16 entrants will give the winner 16 points. Pretty simple.
  • Every subsequent place below the first will receive half of the number of points of the one above it. Note that in certain cases, such as with ties, the system will not adjust these values to compensate. A 7th place entrant will not receive half the number of points of the two 5th place players above them.
  • A player will not be given a placing in a tournament (and thus, no points) unless they play at least one game in that tournament.
  • Placings for players are now static. Players that don't fight have no influence on the placings of players who finish beneath them.
  • The rankings are determined by the total number of points accumulated in this fashion from all tournaments within the past year of the current rankings.
  • When Beta comes out, all records from Season 2 will be instantly wiped, regardless of whether or not one year has passed since a given event.
  • There is also a matchup chart involving all players who have made the top 8 of at least one tournament. A set will only count towards this chart if at least one game is played. I will keep track of players who do not make the cut, in case the player eventually makes top 8.
  • The matchup chart is arranged by player tier, followed by win/loss difference. There is something akin to the Buchholz System in place currently, as can be seen by the values at the furthest right column, but it currently does not factor into the rankings.
  • For each new season, the matchup chart will be effectively reset. All players will remain in their respective tiers, with the exception of honored knights, who will be demoted to knight, and all apprentices, who will be demoted to apprentice Lv0. Think of this as a clean slate for those of you out there who had overwhelmingly negative records against higher-ranked players.

Player Titles:
  • Black - God - Acquired by showing complete dominance over all other players, or by having a positive record over at least 1/2 of the pre-existing gods. This can be lost if one has a negative record over all other gods and at least 3 non-gods, or by not attending any FCR events within a 3 month period.
  • Grey - Demigod - Acquired by having a positive record over at least one god or at least 3 other demigods. This can be lost if one no longer qualifies for the title.
  • Gold - King - Acquired by winning at least one tournament. This can be lost if one has not won a single event in over a year
  • Orange - Honored Knight - Acquired by a knight who has a positive record over at least 5 other players ranked knight and above. This can be lost if one no longer qualifies for the title.
  • Yellow - Knight - Acquired by placing within the top 3 of at least one tournament. This can be lost if one has not placed in the top 3 in over a year.
  • Green - Apprentice Lv2 - Acquired by an apprentice who has a positive record over at least 3 other players ranked knight and above. This can be lost if one no longer qualifies for the title.
  • Blue - Apprentice Lv1 - Acquired by having a positive record over at least 3 other non-peasants. This can be lost if one no longer qualifies for the title.
  • Lavender - Apprentice Lv0 - Acquired by placing within the top 8 of at least one tournament. This can be lost if one has not placed in the top 8 in over a year
  • White - Peasant - A vast majority of you will not be leaving this section any time soon.
  • Light Grey - Retired - Given to any prominent player that retires from competitive play.
  • Brown Text - Potato - Given to any player that is known to lag excessively. This title can be combined with other titles.
  • Red - Outsider - Acquired by excessive violation of tournament rules or other misconduct within the SSF2 community as a whole. Will become a Peasant after a certain amount of time as determined by me.
  • Pitch Black - Blacklisted - Let us never speak of this player again.

Things I look for when determining which tournaments get ranked in the FCR:
  • Number of attendees. As of Season 3, a tournament will fail to qualify if it has less than 16 entrants checked in. Furthermore, a tournament will not be considered if any player makes it to top 8 without winning a single set. A set will only count if at least 1 game is played.
  • Tournament series. A tournament that is a part of a series is more likely to be ranked than a single, isolated event. However, the FCR will not accept any weekly tournament series.
  • Tournament ruleset. A tournament with unorthodox rules has a smaller chance of getting in.
  • Relevance. A tournament with near-zero FCR ranked players is unlikely to get ranked.
  • Tournament quality. A tournament with severe problems in how it's run is likely to be overlooked.

If a ranked tournament contains no players ranked King or above, half points will be given. In addition, no title promotions will be made. This rule does not apply if there are fewer than 3 players ranked King or above in the FCR at any time.

So, with that in mind, feel free to post any questions/comments you may have.

That is the score. At least, that's the Adjusted Score, based on the tournament weights based on players rather than arbitrary "this tournament is this size, so we'll use this weight" weights.

It can be ignored. It just contains a couple of old algorithms.

Updated with Hypest 8 records. Congratulations to PPStyle, RemPrower, and Toxicara for their Ascending, Crowning, and Knighting, respectively.

White - Peasant - A vast majority of you will not be leaving this section any time soon.

An important thing to note is that at least one king+ ranked player must attend an event in order for a crowning/knighting to occur. This is why IronH is not a knight and Nstinct is not a king.

FCR has been updated with Flashathon 2 and Hypest 9 records. Chaunch has been honored, R2R has been knighted, and Titan and TCS have risen out of the peasantry.
