I can't understand why people want to torture themselves playing Smash with a D-pad. But why would torture yourselves playing Smash with one of, probably the worst, D-pad ever. . .

The game itself isn't optimized for sticks, so I've found. It's easier to use the D-pad with the game. Feels more..natural, considering the keyboard controls and xpadder.
To answer the second question, I've had experience with it for 6+ years now. I only mess up with the D-pad about..what, 5% of the time? Mostly doing the wrong special. I'd like to switch to a Dualshock 3 but I've found them to be flimsy and too small for my massive man hands.

I used to play with a D-pad, too, but ever since I figured out HOW to use tilt/smash analog mapping with the game, I've never looked back.

For someone who doesn't make their own money, keyboard is the only choice for me. I don't really mind, though because it feels pretty good to be playing on it

Keyboard.. Probably because I don't have a plug in controller. But for some reason I'm used to the same controls the original SSF had (O, P, arrows) so I base mine around those.

Yeah, there's free programs to get a PS3/4 controller or XBox 360/1 controller to work.

Today I got a Logitech Dual-action/Rumblepad 1 gamepad. Decided to get it over the Logitech F310 for I heard it's analog sensitive is better (and it was much cheaper). One thing I didn't notice until I got it in my hands was the analog-sticks' rims are square. . .
Click to expand thumbnailThat's really cool. For SSF2, this makes it very easy to do diagonal input techs. Performing Dash-Boosting, Jump-Cancel Grab, and Up-tilt feel simple and clean to perform; even with Tap-Jump on. Pretty good controller. I'll be alternating between this and a Classic Controller Pro mostly. The D-pad is also really great for traditional fighters. Could rekt scrubs in Melty Blood with this pad. Would recommend it. You just can't move with the same speed and fluency playing on a D-pad in this game.

That's the controller I use. (Well, almost. I use a Rumblepad 2, but the differences are minimal.) And yeah, it's really helpful. Tad expensive, though.
