NGE is the pretentious s*** kind of anime. What it did do well is deconstruct tropes. Also Gainax never seems to have a budget to end their shows properly back then.

Stop trying to fit in, Adventure Time and Flapjack are great shows. Regular Show will be too.
Some of their new stuff is bad, but not everything they make is terrible.
