I don't know if you knew this but if you hold down the jump button when on the pinball flippers instead of just tapping it, you go way higher and can reach Dr. Robotnik with like 2 or 3 well-timed flips

This might be obvious to the rest of yall and I don't know if the pinball flipper trick works for the other 2D Sonic games as well but I too could never beat Collision Chaos as a kid and when I accidentally found out the aforementioned trick in 2017 I was so angry lol

Anyway Sonic CD is tied with Mania for being my favorite 2D Sonic, mainly because the OST bops so hard (mostly talking about the JP/EU one, but the NA one gets way too much hate as well). There are definitely some weird level design choices and the whole time travel mechanic could have been implemented a bit better but the colors, aesthetics and backgrounds of every level are just beautiful

As much as I like Quartz Quadrant, Metallic Madness is more iconic with bionic animatronics
Plus we get the remixed Act 1 and Act 2 songs are great cause they got cool rap lyrics

If we got one more level from.each game we would have gotten Quartz Quadrant. Also why do sonic 1 and 3 have one level yet 2, CD and & Knuckles have 2 in mania?

Because most people see 3&K as one game and Sonic 1 isn't very good tbh

But, Starlight Zone?

I did want Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3. But Metallic Madness represents a challenge to the Sonic Mania players and I'm fine with that.

The music is good but it's not very interesting visually

They keep reusing Green Hill because it's the best looking level in the game

Not to mention the best playing IMO.

I think most of Sonic 1’s levels aren’t really a great representation of what people know 2D sonic for anymore. I like Marble Garden and Spring Yard and Scrap Brain but there are tons of other levels in the later games that would actually be enjoyed by including them in games like mania/generations. That being said, I hate Oil Ocean so much. Why did they include it in Mania. It sucks. Also for the sequel to Mania I hope they do all original levels. The original levels in mania were by far my favorite part of the game, I’m sick of playing stages I’ve already played a hundred times. I hope whatever Whitehead does next is completely or mostly original.

I think calling them "stages I've already played a hundred times" is really silly when pretty much all of them have new gimmicks added

I liked the original levels more too but the "old" levels aren't really old at all
