So, I've frequently found a single song or album by an artist that I like, while I had a general distaste towards everything else they'd done. For whatever reason, I decided the best course of action in this situation is that, rather than avoid their other music, I should force myself to listen to it, until I like it.

I originally found this song by Giles Corey, and didn't like any of their other things until after listening to them long enough.

The same thing happened with this album by Brother Mynor. When they released their new album I was hesitant to listen to it, as I'd previously heard and disliked some of their things they'd shown on their SoundCloud, and I eventually caved and listened to some of it. I wasn't a fan, to say the least. And then after forcing myself to listen to the album repeatedly, it's now one of my favourite albums as of late.

Have you done this with any music before?

excellent thread!

there have been countless albums that have taken time for me to warm up to them, but the most significant ones i can think of are probably cLOUDDEAD's self titled and have a nice life - deathconsciousness (also by dan barrett of giles corey)

i pretty much didn't like either of these until i actually sat through them both and gave them a real solid listen or two, and eventually i started to really really love them both. i love both of those albums even more every time i listen through them now

some of massive attack's stuff was sort of the same, lapalux's first album, some of daedelus' stuff, also neutral milk hotel and some of ulver's earlier metal projects

i've found that you really have to be in the right mood for certain things when you listen to them (esp. during the first time), and if you aren't particularly into it the first time you might change your mind a whole lot later. there's the flipside as well, sometimes you have an album that you sort of hail as great in the back of your mind, and then go back to it later and you're thinking 'this really isn't that great'

The Seer, Souvlaki, and Loveless are the first that come to mind.

Also I wasn't a big fan of Boris at first, but now they're pretty much my favorite group.

Burial, too.
