i just wanna know how it works lol.

It doesnt really work that way, try doing short hopped PK Fires or the Zap Jump or Magnet Pull techniques, i guarantee the cpu wont mimic that.

Correction: It doesn't completely work that way. Its still a computer and limited by technology, thus I can assume that it can't learn everything a human could.

Okay i was referring to "teaching" the cpu how to fight like you, using training mode. It doesnt completely work that way. And there's stuff the cpu would never do, as the AI is programmed to use attacks in certain ways, such as Ness and Lucas "always" aiming PK Thunder upwards, regardless of whether or not they can reach the edge that way.

Basically the cpu just looks like its mimicking you, its not really doing so.

So you're saying that Ness and Lucas CPU's recovery isn't adaptable or

Then why do I have no memories of either of them recovering straight up? Am I just getting a really rare glimpse of the CPU, or am I mixing up Brawl's with SSF2's?

All CPUs are programmed to recover in any way possible, regardless of CPU level or "state of learning."

Thats not entirely true, there are a lot of moves designed to help with recovery that the cpu never uses for such purposes. Examples:

Luigi Cyclone
Peach Bomber
Wario Bike
Pound
Spin Dash

...to name a few

And for Pound and Peach Bomber, if the cpu uses it trying to recover, its more than likely trying to hit an opponent with the same move, therefore its being used as an attack not for recovery.

I've seen Wario use his bike to recover and I've seen Jigglypuff use pound strictly as a recovery before.

well then those dont count, but there are definitely moves that the cpu dont use for recovery despite the moves making recovery easier or even possible in some situations.

I've seen all of these (except spin dash) used for recovery, and a lot too. Especially Pound.

Yep. The CPUs in Brawl are pretty smart (and sometimes hard to beat lol).
