as much as i didn't wanna just write some quick 30 second write-ups, the days have been getting busier for me so i'm pretty much gonna have to just do that Melvins - Bullhead f*** awesome sludge/drone/doom/stoner metal. It was a great record all the way through, strongly recommended to any fans of metal or generally heavy music. 8/10. Preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9wq-34xyeEI can see why Boris was inspired by this group enough to name themselves after them. Mos Def - The New Danger (i'm feeling lazier by the minute so i'm just gonna copy and paste the notes i was jotting down while i was listening to the album) okay, like. some of these tracks are alright but a couple of these songs with these nu metal riffs are just laughable. god. i feel bad. admittedly, mos's flow and lyrics are still decent, and these tracks aren't even really bad, but these nu metal riffs are just so out of place and kind of kill the album for me. if they weren't there i think i'd like it a lot more. there's a lot of filler, too, it seems. negnuhgenngh. i like parts of this album but most of it is kind of awful. 3/10. this track was ok: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XK_DBqAQcI (hilariously out of place nu metal riffs around the 2:00 mark though) black on both sides is a much better album yeah. welp. hopefully s***'ll get more organized in a day or so

Fore! by Huey Lewis & The NewsPreview: Hip To Be SquareI like Huey Lewis & The News. Their early work was a little too... new wave, for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this: Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Rating: Good! In terms of dadrock/momrock/classic rock/pop rock/whatever the f*** I think Huey's pretty high tier. I also like American Psycho a lot, meymeys be damned. The album does seem a fair bit weaker outside of the singles, although the a capella track toward the end was a neat surprise. It's an enjoyable album.

lazy and busy
Spinnerette - Self Titled
brody dalle's project after the distillers ended I've always loved brody's voice so that's an easy + but the album isn't amazing. some of the tracks are really great but most of it's pretty average. I kinda just wanted to go to different music 6/10
Briggs - The Blacklist
briggs is a rapper for australia and quickly growing to be one of my fav rappers briggs really sounds like a rough dude. he raps aggressively w/ instrumentals that really amplify that tough feel and his lyrics also fit it i really enjoyed this album! 9/10
i don't even know how i ended up so busy but i did ):

Stolen Babies - There Be Squabbles Ahead
Sigh. I really wanted to like this album, I really did. This is an avant-garde prog. rock/metal cabaret band, and to me that sounds cool as f***, some of the ideas are really cool on this record! The female vocalist is good... sometimes. She has a very, VERY annoying guttural vocal style; intro track [urlhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vghuTrKZJAk]Spill![/url] shows this off a lot. This record would be very good if it didn't have grating vocals or silly things like panning parts of the drums to the left ear.
A spotty record, for sure, which are in fact intrusive to the album as a whole. 4/10
Hopefully Diablo Swing Orchestra can be the recovery of this

Sunn O))) & Ulver - Terrestrials So this 3-song album comes from the collaboration of Sunn O))), a drone metal band, and Ulver, a black/folk metal band turned experimental and electronic. I have experience with Ulver, very much enjoying both their old and new work, but I haven't really given Sun 0))) a listen, so this was an intro for them to me. Well, this album is very drone-y, yes, but also very... subtle. The first two tracks feel more ambient than anything, the real meat is Eternal Return. This track has vocals and more prominent guitar, it really fills in the song, if you enjoy ambient/drone or perhaps even post-rock, this album can make a nice addition, sure I would have liked more action, but it was pretty alright none the less. 7/10

bsbd & nacho picasso - for the glory
blue sky black death provides amazing instrumentals while amazingly arrogant nacho picasso raps over them. he brings out tons of hilarious punch lines that keeps the album interesting. if you don't take the guy seriously it's a really fun listen

:> hi guys i'm exhausted Thom Yorke - The Eraser Thom Yorke is a great musician. Anyone that likes Radiohead would agree with me, probably. His debut solo LP is very nice, full of electronics and soundscapes and atmosphere, containing a lot of the same neat ideas and lyrical themes as Amnesiac. (the very, very best Radiohead album) There are less varied instruments and more bleeps, lots of piano as well. Lots of mellow songwriting and instrumentation, lots of great vocal delivery, and lots of FUN. It's a great album, if you like any of Radiohead's more electronic albums then you should definitely check it out. (His new album, Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, is great as well.) 8/10. I liked Analyse, Black Swan, And It Rained All Night. Jeremiah Jae - Bad Jokes I'm kind of on the fence with this guy. His vocal delivery almost perpetually sounds like he has a stuffy nose and his lyrics are sometimes kind of corny. I've listened to parts of Raw Money Raps before and didn't really think it was anything special but I've had this album for a while and wanted to try it out and maybe see what I thought. I liked it, for the most part. Jae obviously takes a lot of influence from Madvillainy, production-wise. His vocal delivery is quite similar to MF DOOM's as well, very monotone and low and without a lot of emotion. Lyrics range from cheesy as f*** to stupid as f*** to actually kind of clever. Jae's lyrics and vocals aren't really the strongest points of this tape, though. The production is sometimes lackluster but for the most part it's pretty interesting. Some of these tracks actually do sound like they'd fit on Madvillainy. Overall it's not anything that'll blow your socks off but if you're into hip-hop and wanna listen to something a little different in under 30 minutes, give this a shot. 5-6/10. Favorite tracks: Evil Laugh, Pervert, Bad Jokes. hooo

Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher's Ballroom So this band is a swing-metal type of deal, they play the two styles very consistently and fits pretty well, you might find yourself tapping your foot to the hi hats or something, they got this down, they also have an opera singer for their vocalist, which is kinda cool. Now for the actual album itself, I found it to be pretty good, but I actually found it to be too soft, I'm used to bands like Unexpect which are somewhat similar but add a huge extreme factor to their music, so this kind of felt weak to me, unfortunately. The album gets a 6/10, they pulled off the sound that they wanted, I think, and did it well, too bad it's not heavier for then I would love it. Calendar: http://i.imgur.com/dyYMcpF.jpgI gave III another chance and it's good! 2 points to III. Favourites this week: III, The Golden Echo, Terrestrials To be honest, I had higher expectations for this week....

Album 5, 23rd Nov: Brother Mynor - CeramicsInstrumental Hip HopSo, this review is pretty much out of nowhere. I just decided to do it, right now, at 11:51 AM. (finished at 12:35 PM) I absolutely love this album, and have done for a while, but the reason I decided to review it is because I just found out that the album has been released for exactly one year, as of today. Which is cool, I guess. So let's get this thing started. It's pay-what-you-want, and I'd highly recommend it to people who like this kind of thing. - Least Favourite tracksFears We Had - The Petrified WorldNot doing a track-by-track review of this one, because I have a lot to say about it, and I feel like it's better to talk about it as a whole. A little background, my first experience with Brother Mynor was his Pilgrimage EP, released February 2013, same year as this one. My brother was sent the album by one of his friends, I think, I'm not really sure. He listened to it a lot (still does), and I really liked it too. When Ceramics came out, which I wasn't expecting at all, I... absolutely hated it. I couldn't stand it. Both me and my brother shared this opinion, and basically tried to forget it existed. Except for Primordial Being, which I kinda liked. But I wasn't really a fan, you could say. I'd listen to bits and pieces of the songs when I was bored as a sort of joke, because of how much I hated it. Then, Christmas that year, the album became free (was previously $2 AUD), so I decided to download it. I don't really know why. I continued to listen to bits and pieces of it, and was listening to whole songs. I still mostly only liked Primordial Being. I don't know when or how exactly, but around then, I started listening to the whole album, very frequently. It became one of my favourite albums of all time, and still holds the #1 spot. (my brother still hates it) Now that I've spoken about my experiences, about the album moving from being one of my least favourite albums of all time, to my overall favourite album, ever, I shall talk about the actual thing I'm reviewing. Ceramics is a 44 minute long instrumental hip-hop album. I don't really listen to much hip-hop, my first album of the genre was the Pilgrimage EP, mentioned earlier, though it had a very asian-influenced sound, very different to this release. Most of the songs have a sound similar to that of a different culture, for each song. All of them manage to work, one after another, which I find pretty cool. It's very interesting, but I imagine for most people, it would take a few listens to enjoy. All people I've shown this album to share my opinion that Brother Mynor is really, really great at making a good beat, and for high production quality. And that he really likes using the sound of water in his music. The album is instrumental, for the most part, with the occasional voice in some songs, but they're still mostly background. I'm extremely picky about vocals in music, and I generally avoid it, which is probably one of the reasons I like this album so much. I love almost every song, as it's own, except for "Fears We Had", and "The Petrified World", which I don't find very memorable in comparison (though still pretty great), but the whole thing works very well as a whole album. It's also gapless, unlike Pilgrimage, in which almost all of the songs just cut off, and don't move into the next song at all. My favourite track is probably The Static, because it has a very laid-back sound to it, while still having a lot of motion. It's pretty great. Another more memorable one, for me, is 4:03am, which has a very jazzy sound, on top of the usual beats. I love this whole album so much, in so many ways, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone, ever. If you don't really like it, try giving it some time and a few more listens, it really grew on me. In case you hadn't noticed, I suck at reviews. Overall Rating: 9.8/10 (or something similarly high)

Ima Robot - Another Man's Treasure
Ima Robot's like in the top of my bands. This album was released a while after everybody took a break and did their own things. Coming back after those years they put out this album which is completely different than their old stuff. I kind of don't listen to it that much even though I think of it as a good album. Doing this review to attempt to appreciate it more than I have.
This album has a very interesting feel to it. It's unique sounding for sure. I kinda don't know how to describe it honestly. Definitely got the happy atmosphere going. Normally my ideal electronic music is more downtempo or you know not all active like this, but this album really gets me in a good mood. The tracks are bouncy, uplifting and unbelievably happy sounding. Life is good feel. Listening to this album was a great experience! A lot of the tracks are very memorable & none of the tracks feel like filler. Great album!!
8/10
