what's with the static on that track luke!!

my review!

Thomas Giles - Pulse

You may know Giles from Between The Buried In Me, a band I never really liked too much, but their soft moments are something I usually enjoy, and basically this is Giles on his own making some generally soft music, electronic and acoustic in nature, it's a pretty light record, with maybe like 2 heavy moments, this album didn't really stand out to me all that much, it's an alright record, nothing stood out too much, but I can appreciate the vibe it goes with, the intro track is kinda cool.
5/10, it's worth keeping in my library, but more fit for shuffle than anything else.

2muchachos - forest is not what it seems: show
2muchachos is a fairly obscure russian ambient band, though theyre slowly getting that well needed recognition.

"forest is not what it seems" is a quiet relaxing ambient album. It's really dreamy sounding, something you could put on at night to chill out/fall asleep to after a day of hard work. The forest knows trilogy is absolutely fantastic tracks, especially part 2. Interest is kept throughout the album over multiple listens. Nothing but positives from me!! Album is name your price, along with a lot of their albums. mad recommends 9/10

Wall of Voodoo - Call Of The West: show
Wall of Voodoo new wave band from the 80s, but not one of the mad popular ones.

So first of all I absolutely love the lyrics in this album. Each song is it's own story, generally not very uplifting. Procrastination, gambling and unhappiness. I was so interested in the songs lyrics that honestly I kind of forget about everything else. Focusing on that the album sounds synthy & pretty western like you'd assume. See the album's instrumental track On Interstate 15. Originally I only liked this album for the catchy tracks like They Don't Want Me, Call of the West, and ofc Mexican Radio but actually paying full attention to the lyrics have changed my entire opinion on this album. Really cool album, 2-3 weak tracks maybe but the rest is great.

8/10

following the attitude of call of the west, maybe if i finished high school my reviews wouldn't suck

I know that I haven't been reviewing a lot of albums due to my limited time, but I really loved this album, so I felt like this was a must.

Perdition City: show
Ulver - Perdition City

Who would have thought that one of the world's best black metal acts, would go and make one of the best trip hop albums. When I found out that Ulver had made an electronic album, I was initially skeptical. But once that first drum kick, paired with an awesome sounding electronic sample, starts in, you know that you're going to be in for a interesting experience. On Perdition City, Ulver have proved that they are true musicians. Not only have they accomplished writing some pretty dark and haunting metal, but have also accomplished writing some... dark and heavy electronic music.

This album definitely has two completely different sides to it. The first half of the album starts out very catchy and punchy, really embracing all the elements of trip-hop. Whereas the second half is much darker and more experimental. I was also surprised at how original this album was as well. They didn't just shoot for a safe and generic trip-hop sound, they come up with their own version of it. Incorporating a lot of brass instrumentation, as well as some unique sounding samples, and managing to even sneak some droney guitar in there in the latter half. Not many artists would choose to take such a risk in their career like this, but I'm really happy that they did.

Although Bertatt is a fantastic Black Metal record that will be in my heart forever, I believe that with time Perdition City could easily become my favorite Ulver release.

Rating: 9/10

The Meek Shall Inherit What's Left by Kiss Kiss
Preview: Plague #11

Third in a series of 4 Nixter blind-faith albums. This one is: Better than the last two!!

Logan you need to watch that damn video

Kiss Kiss is an experimental rock/indie/post hardcore something something / ArtistIsActivelyHavingASeizure-core group and wow this album is a f***

I've listened to it twice and I'm really not sure what to make of it. I think they're intentionally keeping you guessing, since they'll move from coherent and simple tracks to "stick that anywhere" songwriting and really abrasive sounds, like the preview above. Most of the tracks are only 2-3 minutes long, until you get to the last track, which is over a third of the album's runtime at almost 16 minutes.

It's weird and it's interesting as f*** and you should spin that preview track if you want to

Rating: Good!

This is actually my album for yesterday but I can't listen to today's just yet so I'll post about that later

Kiss Kiss is f*** great!

my review!

Azure Emote - The Gravity Of Impermanence

Alright, so this is the band's sophomore album, their debut is called Chronicles of an Aging Mammal, an album I find very interesting, using industrial, avant-garde, and electronic influences centred around very dry death metal, their debut had interesting samples, strange, very strange vocals, riffs that satisfy me aurally many bands fail to do, and is just a very weird, aggressive, and creative album, definitely worth a listen if you're into extreme avant-garde metal. Anyway! This is their seconds full length, as I've stated, and this album does justice for this band! Oh boy, the guitar riffs still give me such appreciation, the samples are still there, and to top it off, they introduced strings and even sax into their songs, and man do they do it well! Such musicianship is on this LP, everything is still strange, but now more elegance is added, Carpe Deim is still a very brutal track, yet has very powerful orchestral elements, soaring over the screams CARPE DEEEEEEIIIIIIMMMMM creates a very powerful atmosphere, the female vocals also pop up a lot on the record, very nice touch indeed. The song Veils Of Looming Despair has amazing electronic elements that really give me an indescribable feeling, it's magic in that it's odd, off kilter style of music can still manage to be so emotional, thoughtful, and just plain badass. Production is very good, their debut was more muddy in sound, due to it's thick thrashing, but this album is more refined, and as a result sounds crisp as hell.

Great album, this gets an 8/10

just a quick note about my album, i'll edit my chart and probably write an actual better review later

Sunn O))) & Nurse With Wound - The Iron Soul Of Nothing

i enjoyed this release for the most part, the first track isn't anything special but it sets the mood adequately enough for the rest of the album, i suppose. it stays pretty uneventful until the third track, "ash on the trees", when s*** gets cool and creepy and weird. the drones overwhelm quiet vocals but the vocals get louder and weirder and more intense, and the music grows as well. noise comes in over the drones, some abrasive percussive parts come in and the abstract vocal delivery reaches its peak. it's a really goddamn cool 17 minutes or so.

sunn o))) is a good group and their collab albums are always really great in my opinion. this one isn't that great in comparison to most of their other collab albums (and honestly most of their studio albums) but it's worth checking out for any fans of drone / dark ambient.

5-7/10 probably. preview: http://youtu.be/GO3KpyrdM4o?t=13m

nurse with wound has a collab album with stereolab and it's exactly as great as you would expect a collab between a avant-garde composer and a pop band to be

Kevin Gilbert - Shaming Of The True

Term recommended this album to me, he told me it's a progressive rock concept album, and as a fan of similar artists, I decided to give this a spin. The story is simple enough, a musician's rise and fall in the music industry through the use of substance abuse, stardom's effect on the mind, and the label's manipulation. This album is post-humorous, so rip to Gilbert, now to my thoughts on the album: First off, Gilbert has a great voice, his vocal range is pretty great, his voice soothing, best shown through the whimsical and fun a cappella track Suit Fugue (Dance Of The A&R Men) and the amazingly emotional track Water Under the Bridge. Gilbert's vocal performance on those tracks are astounding. The instrumentation usually revolves around your standard progressive rock instruments as well as piano and acoustic guitar segments sprinkled throughout, the album is very poppy in nature, a fun album indeed. This album is worth a listen from start to finish, definitely a fun experience.

8/10 Great album, listen to this if you like progressive rock, concept albums, or maybe even an extension if you like Queen.

Daisuke Tanabe - Before I Forget

I greatly appreciate albums that are really accessible and also allow room for experimentation and variation and exploration. Daisuke Tanabe's album "Before I Forget" is a pretty comfortable album that is also pretty vast with repeated listens. I've given this album almost three spins today, and I think that it's pretty special. Instrumental Hip-Hop is a pretty basic genre in itself, but the great thing about it is that there's pretty much no limit to how much you can play around with it, how much you can tear down and rebuild every structure of every song into something unique and enjoyable. I'm kind of going off on a tangent here, but whatever.

"Before I Forget" is warm but also cold. It's comfortable but also mellow and ethereal. Its songs are mostly very basic, but have a lot of depth to them, while also being pretty catchy and nice. It's just really f***' pleasant all the way through. Some songs, like Sigh, are glitchy and harmonic and continue to grow and spread as it progresses. Really basically, but in a way that doesn't really leave you asking for more either. The songs are pretty and they're nice and it's just nice. If you like elevator music this is a pretty great album to check out.

8/10, I guess. I think it's neat. Fav tracks: Artificial Sweetener, Sigh My Fish.
