I've heard of it (and have seen it on the news), though I heard about the estimates ranging from ten thousands to hundred thousands.

It's particularly wry, because Haiti is an extremely poor country, maybe even the poorest in the region (which often implies high levels of corruption, so aid is more likely to spent the wrong way).
