Name (aka Handle): Thomas Terminator
How old are you?: 18
Which characters do you play in SSF2? Why do you play these characters? (Note: do not list characters that are not currently in the game):
Mario: I've been playing Mario and Lloyd since the beginning of the demo process. I'm glad that Mario is still the same as he is in the official Smash titles. Combos are easy to start up, but they are also fun to perform.
Lloyd: Although I've never been found of glass cannon type characters in any fighting games (besides Zero in UMvC3), Lloyd is an exception to that rule. I've found that pulling combos can be risky as Lloyd, but in the end, it's rewarding. Although his ability to chain-grab is diminished due to the nerf on his grab range, it can still be performed. He has great edge-guarding moves and KO power, but at the cost of a limited, gimpable recovery.
Wario: Right after Yoshi, Wario is my favorite character in the Mario franchise. I'm glad that SSF2 uses Wario's moveset from PM, making him a much more formidable fighter in my opinion. Combos are fun and easy to do for me. I've gotten used to the fact that his d-air is an "All or nothing"type of move, where if you land it, you can easily get a KO, but if you screw up, you basically lose a stock.
Goku: Out of the anime characters, I've spent the most time with Goku. I find his ground game on par, but his aerial game is better, especially when you d-air into a platform (like the ones on Battlefield for example), since you basically wavedash and slide off the platform, giving you more speed to work it and easy fombo follow up
How much experience do you have with official Smash titles? (SSB64, Melee, Brawl. Include in this answer which characters you play/played.):
I have casually played SSB64 since 2000, and I started playing in online tournaments back in 2010. My mains in SSB64 are Mario, Luigi and Yoshi.
I've been playing Melee since it came out back in 2001, but I never got into the advanced techniques and stuff or focused on working on competitive play stuff until around 2006, when ATs were getting popular. My mains in Melee are Doc, Mario, Luigi and Captain Falcon.
From the release of Brawl back in 2008, I've been playing competitively, even though I didn't go to my first tourney until 2010. My mains in Brawl are Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Captain Falcon.
I've also been playing Project M since the release of PM 2.5a. My mains in Project M are Wario, Mario, Luigi and Captain Falcon.
Have you ever attended any Smash tournaments? If so, give some details about the tournament (number of participants, which games, etc). How well did you place?Back in 2010 (freshman year, around the time I joined MG), I got my high school to host a Brawl tournament. 50 people in a double elimination singles bracket. Standard tournament rules. I came out 1st overall in grand finals, beating the 2nd best Brawl player in the school (who was a senior
). That was back when I only used Mario.
After playing many bi-weekly tournaments with friends and local Smash Bros players between 2011 and early 2014, I stepped into one of the big tournaments held at the Black Wolf Gaming Center near my house a couple weeks ago. This tournament had the best of Washington and some players from Oregon and California to join in. They had Melee and Project M singles and doubles tournaments. I entered the singles tournaments for both games, and I partnered up with my girlfriend for Project M doubles (she mains Zelda, Peach and ZSS).
Doubles had 36 teams, double elimination. We placed 9th overall using either Mario/Zelda or Wario/ZSS.
Singles, had 70 participants, double elimination. I played 21st in Melee using Doc, and 5th in Project M mainly using Wario (Luigi was secondary).
When did you start playing SSF2? I started playing the game back in v0.1a, but I joined the community at the end of v0.6's days.
What is your favorite stage in SSF2? Explain. Nintendo 3DS is probably my favorite stage competitively. Every match, the color of the 3DS changes to one of the 3 available colors, making scenery not as boring as Final Destination.
Who, in your opinion, should be placed first on the SSF2 tier list? Under competitive settings why would this character perform on a higher level than all others?Currently, I say Chibi Robo is top tier on my tier list. Although his Smash attacks don't pack that much of a punch, his tilts and aerial game make up for it. Recovery is pretty easy to pull off since his Side and Up specials are great tools to recover. His grab range is pretty big, and landing that d-air is very rewarding, especially if the victim does not know how to meteor cancel (Which I find rather hard to do in SSF2 than in the official Smash titles). Your Side-Special can be used to WoP combo your opponent so they can't recover, but you can as long as you have your double jump. Chibi is probably one the only character who can survive doing a WoP that doesn't have multiple jumps like Jiggs, Kirby and Meta Knight in my opinion.
Who, in your opinion, should be placed last on the SSF2 tier list? Under competitive settings why would this character perform on a lower level than all others? I still say that Peach is still on the bottom. This update didn't seem to change her that much in my eyes, while it buffed some characters and nerfed the top tier characters.
If you could make only one change to SSF2 as it currently is, what would it be and why? Find a way to balance the game so that there isn't that huge gap in a tier list.
What is your view on items in competitive play? Unless the tournament is an All-Brawl tourney or something like the Smash 4 invitational, I say they stay out of competitive play. Items provide a toxic factor where the game becomes more of luck and chance like Mario Party instead of skill like most fighting games.

Why do you want to join the Smash Flash Back Room? What will you contribute? Why are you an exceptional applicant? Be as detailed as possible. I want to contribute my knowledge that I hone not only with SSF2, but with the official Smash titles to help develop and popularize the competitive scene of Super Smash Flash 2. I also wish to seek knowledge, to make me a better competitive Smash player from the fellow Back Room members, because I didn't know anything about advanced techniques and what the acronyms mean until I joined the MG community.
