Got some Yoshi replays against the level 9 CPU here:
Vs. Black Mage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epi11Mj-pOQ
Vs. Chibi Robo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjvwlb_JjDo
Vs. Tails: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gs6JlWnZAk

Eggs and grabs are wonderful tools for Yoshi. :)

I'm working on my Yoshi. Does anyone have any advice? I didn't play too well, but hopefully I can still learn from it.

Your Yoshi is actually very similar to mine (except yours is a bit less grabby and more spammy with the up aerial ;) ). I'd just advise making more use of n-air and down throw and also try moving in the air a bit more to approach since Yoshi's air speed is so good in this game and complements his good aerials. You played pretty well imo, so I don't have much more to say.

Hey guys, I got a vid about Yoshi's pseudo-wavedash! It's probably unknown (I discovered it on complete accident), and it's pretty cool. The disadvantage is the startup; you must commit to up-spec to do it. The rewards are valuable too; Yoshi gets a huge boost to his mobility and a way to follow up on platforms horizontally. It's also pretty easy to get the timing.
Check it out!

Woah that is really neat! I'll be sure to try to incorporate this into my gameplay. Thanks for the find!

It seems really useful for edgeguarding and approach because of the added bonus of an egg for your opponent to deal with. It also affects stage choice because I don't think it works from a full hop on PS3.

If you vary the timing, you can do it from a short hop on many different platforms. The first obvious stages that come to mind that ruin this tech are FD/3DS and ToS. A lot of stages with platforms in orientation like BF's lower platforms (WW and Sanctuary have this) can be traversed without a jump from one to the other. Sanctuary is great because you can cover the whole platform, I soooooooo want to knock someone away from one side of the stage, then wavedash across the platforms to do a flying dsmash :wee:
I agree that it's best use is for edgeguarding, Yoshi could also probably use it to camp too now that he has all this mobility. It doesn't work against CPUs because they can't be mind games or blown away by new stuff, but I bet pulling this out against some guy who doesn't know will probably throw him for a loop lol.

This actually gives Yoshi an unusual camping game that actually improves with platforms. For big characters like DK, you could just camp eggs until one hits, and then combo the living tar out of them.

What's the best way to SDI Yoshi's down air if any? or should I just take the hits like a man?

Mash as hard as you can in one direction, left or right is probably best. Down can work, but he's probably going in that direction anyways. Logic might suggest then that SDI up is good, but the Dair is a meteor so you will stay sucked into the move I think.

Also, SDI away from where Yoshi is coming at you from. Coming from right above you straight down, you basically are going to eat 30% if they follow your SDI, but do it anyway to lessen the hurt a little and make them work for it!

New to Yoshi. Has his fsmash traditionally been so weak? I've hit two people with it around 140% and both lived. One was even a little charged. Other than that, he seems like a beast, although I'm never sure what to do after his dair. Seems like people can usually just mash something and beat out your next attack.

you trade power for insane speed priority on that fsmash yo.
Usmash is even worse :(

The amazing thing is that that combo is in no way really unusual with Yoshi: against fast-fallers on FD or ToS, Yoshi kicks some tail (see what I did there?). Against Fox, depending on DI, you can do ftilt-> maybe another -> utilt -> maybe a couple more -> DJ uair x2, x3, or x4 -> fair tech chase ftilt for as long as you can keep it up -> dsmash
