project m is from a competitive standpoint smash bros clearly was not designed with competitive play in mind.

Imo the main problem with Project M is that it's super conservative, what with changing back all of the new stuff Brawl gave to Ganondorf, Falco etc, to the point where they even reverted aesthetics back (Peach Bomber's effects for example). That's not neccesarily a bad thing, I suppose, if you're looking for a Melee expierence but I'd rather expierence a new game, myself instead of 'Melee 2.0: Brawl'.

Ganondorf kept everything from Brawl worth keeping, Flame Choke, Reverse Punching, UpB uppercut, etc, so no, they didn't change back all the new stuff Brawl gave him. Falco's old reflector is a lot better competitively, and he even kept the Brawl jab. Project M isn't a 1:1 Melee clone, they kept a lot of Brawl tech like DACUS and Footstooling and mixed it with Melee tech. Yes, but the community found a way to make it competitive. It's really cool to be able to watch a tournament full of really talented Smashers taking the game to places noone originally thought it could be taken. While it wasn't Sakurai's intention competitive play is a part of Smash culture. You don't have to like it but it will always be around.

Well, if balancing is a bad thing then: For Smash 4, Sonic's normal run should be as fast as it is with Bunny Hood. That's almost close to the Sonic games. Kirby should have an infinite number of multiple jumps, like Kirby games. And no but Link should be able to beat Ganondorf in a match.Seriously, how do you not see the problem with Pit, a multi-jump character who can glide, having a recovery move that is: • One of the highest in the game. • Free controlling. • Can canceling into attack/air-dodge to keep safe. Is it just because he's you're favorite character, or is just because his abilities are no long child-plays to abuse anymore? Just because Sakurai made a design, doesn't make it perfect everytime. For one, many of Brawl's movesets had many flaws and poor designs choices leading to huge balance gaps (I blame that more on lack of time, not Sakurai in particular). Even Sakurai saw the problem with Pit and gave him a different recovery for Smash 4.

Making a fighting game balanced and playable are two different things, Up until PM 3.0 I took no interest into PM cuz of the somewhat immature character design, I back up the notion that melee wasn't made to be a competitive game, people made melee competitive, - So when I see project M returning the trail effects and old side B for marth, (shieldbreaker too). I get a lil upset at the fact that they're imitating hardware and innovative limitations. with that being said L canceling and dash dancing can return if you ask me, but that muky heavy feeling you get from P:M and Melee could go, so can wavedashing, tripping and old ganon. Although i respect competitive play, i don't think a game should be centered around it to much, look at Sstreetfighter IV, Mortal kombat and Soulcalibur V these game now have no life.
