If it makes you feel better, I have been playing Thief Gold

I am constantly impressed by the size & design of the levels

One of the common complaints about the new game was smallass levels so you can probably already tell why people didn't like it without even playing it now

In general after playing this I can picture what a modern reimagining would look like (probably terrible)

And everyone seems to think it is. Which is a shame because I liked DXHR

Also you can't jump and any game where you can't jump is unsettling to me

Maybe that's what they were going for. Thief Gold has spooky skellingtons

thief gold f*** SHOCKED me with how large the levels are honestly
my first thief game was thief 3: deadly shadows and i like that game because of the #nostalgia factor but it f*** sucked in comparison honest to god

thief 1 also tried to (sort of) be a horror game and i liked a lot of the open exploration sorta levels with the zoombies and *actual spoiler* dead hammerite spirits and mages, but they're terribly out of place in some areas. thief 2 got rid of all of them and whenever the levels in t2 got vast and explorey you still had to worry about guards and *pagans and stuff. thief 2 is basically a perfect game. god. f***. i love thief so much. i love thief so much

I'm only a little bit in (just after the assassins chapter), but I'm enjoying the hell out of it so far. Kind of a clunky interface but that can be forgiven.

"Shocked" is a good way to put it. I know they have to be using some loading tricks to make it happen, but it's still so goddamn impressive. No hangups anywhere on the gigantic f*** maps, and this game came out in '98. It's NUTS. I have legitimately gotten lost a few times. No AAA publisher in 2014 would release a game where you could get lost

@term mmmmmm thief 2 is honestly a lot better, it manages to keep the creepy a** atmosphere and clever writing and design and stuff

some of the earlier levels are a tad less big but you can still
get really lost
i think that's one of the best things about it, you can legitimately get lost and run about and figure out where all of the secret safes and stashes and s*** are, and find a bunch of hidden stuff as well. you can just explore
