I was wondering when someone would catch on to that.

Because theres a thing called a showcase topic.

Its ok to bump a topic pertaining to lets say, a game that hasnt be posted in for a long time, but you're playing it and have something to say

Thats A-Ok.

Posting in a 4 month old welcoming topic for someone who has likely stopped coming to the forum/is now a regular and doesn't need a welcome, is noobish and post whoring. I consider it spam and act promptly. This also goes for the topic creator coming back and bumping their own, old topic. They need no more welcomes, we know they're here, they don't need to re-post so.

The one exception for me is 'goodbye' topics , where they've returned. Then they can bump.

So is it okay if I bump my own art topic to show updates? I haven't been warned yet, I'm trying to make sure.

So then, can we edit the rule? Obviously there are hidden exceptions that are not expressed in "DO NOT POST IN TOPICS NOT POSTED IN FOR 2 WEEKS+."

We could say "Refrain from posting in topics not posted in for 2 weeks or more, unless you have something to add to the discussion."

hm... i think the "something to add to the discussion" part can be more specific...

I agree that a 14-day bump limit is ridiculous. I mean, who actually automatically looks at the date of the last post? The BitForum bumping rules say you can't bump topics more than 10 PAGES back, but since MG has much more topics per page, maybe it should be changed to a 2- or 3-page rule here. 14 days is just ridiculous...

Let me see the topic and then I'll decide for myself if you should have been warned or not
umm here: http://forums.mcleodgaming.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&p=417798#p417798

Hm... That topic did seem dead for a reason. This isn't really a great example, since it wasn't super old but it was basically dead anyway. Not sure what to say here..
K it was really a joke post anyway but it was only 1 day over the limit and what happens when you get too many warnings and how much is too much

How does this sound:

No bumping a topic older than 2 weeks if you have nothing valuable to contribute to it

This way it can be more up to the moderator's discretion on how to handle it, and if it's your own art topic or something then of course you have something to contribute since you're updating it.

The main idea is to just keep people from bumping topics who have nothing but "lol" to say

Sounds good to me. It sure will help with all the spam following someone's accidental bump.

Isn't that kind of redundant?

If you have nothing valuable to contribute to a topic, you probably shouldn't post there anyway, regardless of the topic's age.

Well my first warning issue was because bumping (I just answered a question in an old topic), I really think is quite annoying receive a warning for that. Nac takes very seriously this rule.

In his defense, what you posted wasn't really worth posting. It was in a topic that seemed rather disliked, and the question doesn't even seem to be really targeted at you, it seemed rhetorical and not really needing a response, especially months later.

Well, I'm not offending Nac, but still I think he exaggerated.
