I had an argument with my younger brother about who was a veteran and who was not, because after Zero Suit Samus was confirmed he said she was a returning character.

I said "Zero Suit Samus wasn't in the original SSF, dude. What are you talking about, a 'returning character'?"

A short back and forth happened between us, and he kept referencing characters who were in Brawl but not in SSF like Marth. I kept saying that characters like Naruto and Lloyd were veterans because they were in SSF and were returning as part of the series.

Then he took me to the updated Dojo website. And sure enough, Lloyd, Naruto, Tails, etc. were all listed as "Newcomers."

I had to ask: Why? Wasn't the new spirit of Super Smash Flash supposed to be that of independence from Nintendo Smash games, just using their ideas as a basis for a great Smash game? Isn't that why the music and menu design was changed/tweaked? I'm not trying to be absolutely right in this situation, but I was completely okay with someone like Zero Suit Samus, Donkey Kong and Marth being Newcomers to SSF2 because they weren't in the first game. Why did the site suddenly to reference Brawl in the roster?

EDIT: I JUST realized that the "Past Stages" option down there had Brawl and Melee Stages in version 0.9a. Hmm.

*EDIT II*: It's not an idea, peeps. I was asking about why SSF wasn't being referenced on the site as the game before this, or rather why Brawl was being referenced as the game before this.

And fyi, they're trying make a Smash game, so characters that appeared in Smash before (Marth) will be considered Veterans. SSF's roster has nothing to do with SSF2's roster, so Characters like Naruto will be considered newcomers. The game is still a Smash fan game, they just decided not to base the roster on a previous fan game. That has nothing to do with being independent from Nintendo, it was simply a development choice.

Quiet that siren, the topic is not a game idea. I was questioning the site development choice to reference Brawl as SSF2's predecessor instead of SSF. They're all Smash games, it just so happens that the Mcleodgaming has already made a Smash game and if my memory serves right referenced it on the site by listing characters who had already been in SSF as veterans.

Again, just questioning the choice of reference on the Mcleodgaming site.

the point is that, there's a whole section for discussing SSF2 in it's entirety, and this section is just for site related stuff.

it's the sequel to SSF but it uses SSBB's roster as a reference when it comes to whether or not they're veterans or newcomers

Brawl is just a reference for newcomers and veterans. SSF1 is the predecessor for SSF2.

The reason that big red message is there is for questions/ideas coming from WITHIN SSF2 - eg "Why don't you put Luffy in?" or "ONE TIME I JUMPED UP AS KIRBY AND HE ACTUALLY JUMPED LEFT #WOAH #DOCTORWHO"

This question is about something outside of the game, meaning, even though he used to word "SSF2", it is still not a question about SSF2. It's about wording on a news post.
