It's similar. Rather than being time based it's aim based. You need to hit with Mario's hand when it's the farthest extended for the meteor, anything else will be Doc hit.

It seems like Mario has a lot of trouble against swordsmen in general. They have MUCH better range than him and a lot of their attacks (or anyone's attacks for that matter) eat/slice Fireballs, Mario's main tool for approach. I find Lloyd the easiest(?) swordsman to beat and Sora the hardest.

Why is the doc hit so weak? Was the move killing around 110% unbalanced? If so I understand. I still think every characters' recovery needs to ride up all walls. It's a really frustrating way to SD and makes sweet spotting really annoying.

The sweetspot is so easy to hit with and the meteor hit is so much better, having the doc hit be any better would just completely make the move polarizing.

Oh man, that was fun to watch! (those ambitious F-airs) Solid Mario, dude. I think you could use more Cape? Idk. By the way, how do you do those pivot F-smashes? I've been trying to figure it out with Mario.

terribad lol For Pivot F-Smashes i do dash opposite direction and C-stick left or right for it to be easier than manually doing the smash. Theres a tutorial on YT somewhere about pivoting.

In regards to pivot fsmash, Ken said that he tends to do full length dash dances (the timing for foxtrotting basically), and it makes it easy for him to do pivot fsmashes that way. Csticking is pretty much required, but I can sometimes perform it in the main smash games without cstick. In SSF2 I can do pivot fsmash without cstick sometimes, and only with a bit of mental preparation right before. In other cases I just rely on dash canceling fsmashes.

I went to try Mario and fully expected him to have his Smash 4 spam UAir combos complete with its totally lol-worthy near-laglessness on landing. Also wanted to see jab x3 > FAir over the edge as a KO combo (again like in Smash 4). Also what's with his third jab? The animation is weird and it has super short range compared to the first two jab hits.

Mario's combo starters are usually U-throw,D-throw, and U-Smash at low to mid percents. So something like U-throw>U-Smash>*insert any aerial here* U-Tilt also combos into itself until they DI out and can lead into a variety of smash attacks at low to mid percents and aerials at higher percents You can chaingrab fastfallers with U-throw SHFF Fireball is a great approach tool If you're being juggled N-Air can be a decent combo breaker OOS U-Smash,N-Air, and Super Jump Punch rid of shield pressure Mario's primary kill moves (U-Smash and F-Smash) wont start KOing until around 120% F-Air and B-Throw(near the ledge) can KO around 140% Mario's good at gimping opponents so once they're off stage keep off stage with Fireballs, B-air, F-Air meteor smash, and the Cape. Hope this helps

In addition, Uair is really good and can link into itself. Nair has super high priority if you hit with it when it comes out, so the lame way to escape combos is mashing the attack button. Dspec can be a combo starter if you hit the final hit. Cape is useful for edgeguarding some recoveries because it turns people around. If you cape, say, Captain Falcon's Uspec, he'll turn around and die.

Although fun to play as I have a feeling Mario will probably be placed lower on this demo's tier list. I still find his biggest problem is comboing into his kill moves at kill percents. Reminds me of Melee Mario which isn't good lol. I feel like I have to land a raw Fsmash or Dsmash in neutral to get a kill which is really hard to do with lag + good opponents.
