melee was pretty good too, with the only major blemish being ice climbers

He isn't, they've literally shown absolutely no gameplay from Dark Pit at all in any of the leaks. And people have been saying that he has other weapons so he wouldn't be an exact clone of Pit. Which raises the question of how is he gonna play.

I highly doubt they'd be in their own section when you unlock all the characters, they should move to their series once that happens
