Koedan is a strange planet. Its one of the few planets in the universe that has the right conditions to support life. But it’s not entirely normal. Mutations are commonplace in this world, and not just the weird ones where people grow extra limbs or have mental defects. These mutations are overwhelmingly beneficial, and everybody knows a person who has one. One of these people, Cameron Lucander, resides in a small, rural village known as Lumenine Valley. His abilities first began to manifest when he was fourteen years of age. It was barely noticeable, an almost imperceptible glitch of light. Anomalies like this became common, and came to be ignored entirely until one day. Cameron began to wonder if maybe he was causing these things to happen. He began to experiment, seeing what the light responded to, be it physical movements or his thoughts. He learned that he could telepathically manipulate light. Over time he developed this ability and taught himself to do just about anything with light. He could bend it around himself, rendering him invisible. He could focus it into a small beam concentrated enough to burn, release it in a blinding flash, or even create complex mirages by influencing the color spectrum. It was all very fascinating to him, and he took it upon himself to learn everything he could about light and how it worked. Being a curious soul, he discovered much about the properties of light and naturally wanted to share his knowledge with others. He became a physics teacher, and a good one. His employment of his powers into his lessons captured the students’ interests while still teaching them the subject matter. At one point, his students made him a prism out of crystal found imbedded in the walls of the valley. This was all very well for him, and he felt that his life could just stay as it was and he would be content. Unfortunately, the town got word one day that the Lord Sovereign was initiating a manhunt to locate and capture every gifted resident of the world. Koedan, being a relatively small planet, wouldn’t take long to search. Cameron, aware that capture was not an option, knew that he would have to leave town immediately before he drew attention to Lumenine. However, it was too late. Before Cameron had finished preparing for his journey, the town heard the approach of the Sovereign Cavalry. However, Cameron had a plan. It took a massive effort on his part, but he managed to camouflage the entire town, making it invisible to the naked eye. As the lead cavalryman reached the ledge overlooking the valley, the town’s citizens could plainly see that he was perplexed. The village for which he had been heading had simply vanished into thin air. Everyone held their breaths in anticipation. Other riders had reached the ledge, and were looking similarly confused. Would they descend into the valley to investigate? Luck favored them that day, as the leader promptly turned back, and the others followed suit. The entire town seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. The townsfolk enthusiastically thanked Cameron for protecting the village. The village blacksmith even forged a hilt onto Cameron’s prism, making it easier to carry and use as a tool. After that, he was off without delay. Where he was going, he did not know, just that his eventual destination would be the mansion of the Lord Sovereign. He had quite the bone to pick.
