That makes it sound like you're doing your best to not seem scummy. I just get the feeling that a village-sided role would worry more about scum-hunting then CLEARING THEMSELVES. Explain?

That true, but wouldn't they also want to survive to?

The goal of the game isn't to survive (with the exception of survivor). The goal of the game is to do whatever you can to help your team win.

It's a common mistake made by new players. He most likely didn't intend to give off a scum reading.

The Silent One was on earlier today. I don't think anyone else has been on since the game started though.

Yeah, but Crabby actually said something. TSO hasn't said anything yet today.

What other roles could you deduce from that? I used the wiki for help, but it's pretty hard to decipher. Perhaps we can start theorizing from that.

The godfather will most likely claim to be a weak-ish townie (doctor, investigator), so we can have some leverage if said circumstances occur.

Yes, it is a bit hard to tell exactly which antagonists (and corresponding roles) have been incorporated in the mafia. I'm pretty certain, however, that the mafia has a Don Paolo: Godfather, seeing as he's one of the main villains of the series. I feel the best course of action for the day is to generate a list of the most likely mafia roles based on the antagonists of the series. We can then cross stuff out as actions take place during the game.

Another main antagonist of the series is http://layton.wikia.com/wiki/Jean_Descole but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what role would fit such a character.

Wouldn't Godfather more likely be an antagonist that appeared to be helping for a large portion of the game before his true motives were revealed? Searching for a likely name...

Well, according to the wiki, he did that in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. I'm pretty certain that there's a godfather role.

Any other ideas?

I don't really have any ideas about anything else yet. I should look at the wiki some more.

Just wondering, how does figuring out the help us unless we go around asking for character names?

1. What's your experience with Mafia games? (Where you've played them, online, IRL, EM)
Played online, IRL a few times. When my 4U maths class was bigger, we'd play it before class started.

2. What's your favorite alignment? (Town sided, Mafia sided, or independent)
In many cases, it depends on the setup. On the other hand however, mafia is all about trickery and there's a limit in how much you can do that as town. As a third party, you aren't exactly against the town and so you don't need to trick anyone really. The flawless mafia wins are the best; to be able to trick EVERYONE leaves you smiling for at least an hour (I remember doing this in a game just before school and everyone thought I looked like an idiot because I couldn't stop grinning). However, given that these victories are not as common as I'd like, I'd say the best games would be the ones where I get to be clear.

3. What's your favorite role? (Basic Townie, Godfather, Jester, etc.)
Oh... See the second question.

BUT ANYWAY

Yeah. Looking through the PL wiki, there's only a few characters and I doubt we'll see any double ups. When people claim, they'll have to say their character's name too since that will make cc's easier and probably more reliable. I think I should point out that I've never actually played any of the games or anything like that.

Also on the not of the PL Layton, here are some of my thoughts

Cop: Investigates people. Pretty explanatory
Granny: May be thinking too much, but she's still a granny. I really think that in forum mafia, with the abundance of power roles we (probably) have, granny should claim before we don't wake up tomorrow after having EVERYONE die. Don't claim if you're G. Riddleton but don't kill visitors, but I think you should claim if you do.
Watcher or tracker probably: Has a camera. On the background of the wiki, she's holding it. I assume it makes a regular appearance.
Jailer: Part of the force....
Vigilante: The vigilante is supposed to be like a rogue cop. I think this guy meets that criteria closer than the others.

That said, despite this list, we must be careful of restricting ourselves too much.

And I should also point out that just because we nl'd every other mafia game, doesn't mean we do it this time. All of the games I encourage it, I've been mafia. It really doesn't help town. I know that statistically speaking we're more likely to hit town, but on the flip side, if we nl, mafia is GOING to hit town, and we're helping them.

Never underestimate the power of scumhunting

What's your experience with mafia games(where do you play them online,IRL, EM)
Only played two games online. One was at the very end so I only had one day phase, and the other one I only survived until Day 2 or 3 so I'd say I don't have much experience.

What is your favorite alignment?(town sided, mafia sided, or independent)
i've only been on the townie side so I don't know what it feels like to be on the other two. So townie

What is your favorite role? (Basic townie,God father, jester, etc
Doctor.

On the first day, we don't really have any evidence. And random lynch could help us, but it's more likely that we'll hit a townie. I'm still keeping my vote, but I'll be willing to change if necessary.

I said it before, anyone who wants to nl has either not thought through things enough/ is dumb or is mafia.

Which one do you want to be?

We have a mislynch that we can use and not killing is more likely to ruin it than killing is. Face it, if it would lose us the game, vig CAN choose not to kill and I really doubt there are 3 killing, non-town roles.

But that won't matter. Not if we actually hit mafia.

I don't want to vote at the moment out of fear that it could trigger n1 starting,
