Comets wouldn't 'hit' earth as such, they'd melt and evaporate before they made it.

While ice melts, and entering the atmosphere is a pretty hot affair, there's no guarantee that all of it will melt, especially depending on the size of it.

Still, the blow from a comet will be much less severe than the blow from an asteroid. Much smaller chance of global destruction and such.

But still, Homer Simpson might be helpful.

Seriously, comets are small-time asteriods. If an asteriod hit Earth, we'd be screwed. If a comet did that, we'd laugh our asses off.

Why would we be laughing? The comet would have a small impact, but would/might still kill many.

Oh. Woopsie. I meant laugh at how much of a faliure a comet would be if it fell down a canyon or something.

Anyway, the next comet could be 2,000,000km away.

Y2K was a stupid idea really. Computers are smarter than we believe them to be.

Now this comet thing is nature, and nature is always unpredictable, therefore you can't just shove it off as some s*** theory.

We're not talking about the mayan calender ending, ya worthless twit, but something that has actually happened in the past.

And at least Y2K had some understandable fear laid out at it's base.

Y2K paranoia could have been avoided if the government was smart enough to install a system override and explain that to the public.
