this is getting f*** stupid

there is no rule against "s***" because "s***" is a term that is completely meaningless

you cannot warn people for "s***" because "s***" is whatever you want it to be

tell your moderators to find better excuses to warn me or f*** off already

thanks

ps this is exactly why i said we needed public warning logs

"if you're not getting warned then you shouldn't have to worry about anything"
"also we can make up a completely arbitrary reason to warn you, thanks bye"

That isn't a clear enough reason, and I'll go over it with all of the mods to make sure every warning message is clear and that the warning itself is deserved.

I don't think public logs help too much with this stuff.

I think what would be better is if we had a system in place that makes it easier to get warnings removed if they are undeserved. I've had this happen 2 times two or so years ago were I was continually getting warned for 'going off topic'. Cleod himself admitted the warnings were stupid but didn't care enough to get them removed because 'it'd be too much work'.

The thing with that is while there's no "easy" way to implement something like that with this archaic forum's guts, but what we can easily do is if for some reason you got two additional warnings, we could easily immediately unban you since you technically weren't supposed to have three up until that point. There has been talk of upgrading to a forum backend structure that allows us for greater customization, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I just suggest it because I think there would be less s*** moderation if everyone could see it being s***

It's reported extremely vocally every time it's bad, so I don't think it would change much. Maybe if any time someone was warned, since we can't automate it, they edit your post with the public warning notification and the reason why. That way warnings are forced to be better thought out and their reason is publicized.

Yeah I understand your reasoning and you're by no means wrong but I have to say I wouldn't like this to turn into a Mod witch hunt either. I personally think that approaching the moderators/Cleod about this sort of this is more efficient than making a public deal about it.

Maybe what would be good though, is if we had a topic in this section were we can post if we think a warning we got is undeserved for others and other mods to check rather than mods having to do all stuff public. However I get the feeling such a topic might clog up with the wrong type of people (read: ssf2 kiddies), it might help some who genuinely don't understand why they get warned though.

Basically I think it'd be good to have a place to call out if you think you're wrongly warned but at the same time I could also see having such a platform could lead to some people unjustly trying to start s*** with the mods as well. Feel free to disagree with this though, I can imagine many would.

i like geno's idea honestly. just do the user was warned for this post edit with an actual reason in it. that makes it very public to all the people who were possibly affected by it or the post itself, as well as providing pretty clear cut material to point at and complain about if a warning is especially unjust

that wasn't an opinion dude

generally i try to keep my reasoning very "to the point" when i hand out warnings. the public warning thing is good though, i'll try to remember to do that from here on out. also a public warning log is a good idea IMO, but i dont think it's easy to implement.

and im the bad one. im the troll

smh

The term "s***" can offend many people. It doesn't seem like it for most, but some find it offensive. If a mod finds it offensive, they have all the f*** right to warn you. Take it and move on. I've gotten warnings for things that make absolutely no sense. I don't come here and rant. Take it like do.
