IIRC, they definitely said they aren't doing another Galaxy so as to keep the series as fresh as possible. Galaxy 2 was only spawned due to an incredibly large amount of removed content and ideas (Yoshi being the main one) and pandering to fans.

Now that I think about it, there's a new 'series' with each console. N64 had Mario 64, GC had Sunshine, and the Wii had the Galaxies. WiiU will probably have a brand new idea to go with the Tablet, which may or may not spawn a sequel depending on how it does.

What you said saddens me. I desperately want another Galaxy. sigh...
Well at least the next thing they come out with will be great like everything else, as usual. Maybe there could be a Sunshine 2? Sunshine 2 could actually let you use the paint brush yourself with the Tablet to draw stuff and whatnot. Or like you said, something entirely new.

The 'series' is Super Mario (with games within the series being 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, 3D World). Saying that Galaxy was a series is like saying that Sonic Adventure was a series.

I personally think the various aspects of the Land/World games are similair enough to be counted as part of the Mario 3D franchise, even with the absence of mission-based world gameplay and star-collecting.

That's mainly just because it has 3D effects. While Land/World may appear similar to the others, they play totally different from the other 3D Mario games. Technically they're 3D Mario games but when you play them it just feels like playing a 2D one with more roaming capability, as each level forces you to reach one or occasionally two goals within the time limit.

Yeah, there is a huge difference between searching for a star in a open world, then going from left to right to a flag (what is basically is in Mario land/world)

Yeah that's half the reason why I both loved and sorta hated 3D Land. It was fun but got repetitive after a while. Just didn't have that NSMB DS/Wii feel that I hoped for.

Though I agree with that, on a video about super Mario 3D Land, a Nintendo dev, can remember who but I'm sure it wasn't Miyamoto, called the Galaxy games a series.

It takes at least 4 games to be a series

Isn't SMG+SMG2 more like game and DLC pack, though?

Something like that yeah, since it originally was supposed to be the same Galaxy, but with more stuff.

I disagree, it should be 3.
