Why you want to learn that dumb language is beyond me. It not only is
A) a super useless asian language. The only asian language worth learning is a Chinese one because its actually USEFUL. Japan is not an important industrial powerhouse anymore so there is no reason to learn its dumb language.
B) Japanese is a dumb language based on syllables. It takes no skill to learn, all you have to do is memorize f*** characters, what sound they make, and basic grammar and you can make a sentence. There's only one language that simpler than this and that's Esperanto.
C) There's this thing called dubbed and subbed anime. You don't needn't to learn a language to f*** watch little girls doing jack s***. And lets be honest, you don't even need to know what they're saying because you usually just masturbate to them anyway.

unless you're doing business with them or living there, you won't absolutely need to learn german for tourism since most germans speak english well
on the other hand, fewer japanese people speak english than germans, so it'd be more useful to learn japanese than german regarding tourism

also in my biased opinion japanese is a far cuter language than chinese dialects, and has a more interesting culture to boot

Also Chinese culture is 100% factually more interesting.
Compare Chinese history and Japanese history and see how their cultures have developed over time.
Chinese, which contains much more change due to outside influences, is arguably much more diverse and interesting than Japan, which isolated itself from all other culture in order to protect its own bizarre and disturbing (opinion based in factual examples of perversion throughout history, therefore not biased) culture from being diluted by outside ideas which enhance such things.

German actually recently overtook both Russian and French in need to know languages for business(and it overtook Japanese in need to know languages for travel quite a long time ago), but never mind that because I have no real interest in trying to promote learning German. What does get to me here is your misunderstanding of East languages vs West languages and the fact that you believe that Japan has a more interesting culture than China when the 'Greater Chinese Culture' became the basis(Heavily influenced) for almost every Eastern Asian culture, this includes Japanese. Now if you were more clear about what in their culture you PERSONALLY enjoyed that would be different, but....
