why aren't we knowing about any future characters? Is it because mcleod does what nintendon't in terms of not letting rumors leak or are they not being planned for the game at all.

Most likely because this is the final roster, unless they decided to add new characters thru DLC, we will never know.

Another is probably that due to the flame surrounding the old roster (which was revealed to the public, long story), the devs have learnt their lesson since and are keeping things private in order to avoid complaint rallies and s***. That's just my guess though, take it with a grain of salt.
As for whether the roster's planned or not, that's unknown but I think not because of Pacman's appearance (there's no way they would've conceived him as a character back in v0.7 before Sm4sh came out, and I mean he's a direct copy from Sm4sh so). Also, Luffy was included mainly because of the huge amount of people that wanted him in.

The Starter characters for the final game are all known, but the unlockables will probably not be revealed until the full game. And I'm sure D3 and the 'Dorf will be in the full game- remember guys, Beta is not the full game!

Because programming and designing characters takes time and energy.

I mean they're both fairly large and chunky characters that would require a lot of sprites, and their size would make the process even longer.

Kirby and Zelda have a lot of possible reps with potential for very creative movesets, never seen before in Smash. Just look at Bandana Dee!
