Spider-Man was a weird one for me. It didn't do anything you don't see in the average AAA action adventure game, but it did those things you see in every game really well. I liked it a lot yet I don't feel like it was one of my favourite games this year.
The story is great, though. It's probably my favourite Spider-Man thing out of all I've seen/read/played, at least for now. Gonna go see Into the Spider-Verse in a few hours lol

Yeah after hearing it fell into a lot of the modern open world tropes I felt less inclined to run out and get it. Especially since I also played Horizon Zero Dawn this year and started hating it once I realized almost every fight was the same and the story was going nowhere. Good to hear Spiderman has a good story though that's usually the worst part of any licensed game

well actually there's one important upgrade to the standard formula: getting around is fun enough that you don't want to just fast travel everywhere
but you should sometimes. you get to see spider-man take the subway. it's pretty funny
