I'm talking about Tails by the way, it's one of his nicknames.

I posted this thread to kind of complain (rant) about Tails, since the character communities thread is not really the thread for expressing how broken a character is.

Anyways, I'll start by saying that he is probably the most questionable when it comes to design. First of all, his up-B, now completely reworked to, instead of a recovery move, be Tails throwing his little buddy(idk what those are called) which wanders around the stage catching opponents and acting like a detonated sticky bomb. Now you see, the problem here is, that Up-B
-It can't be reflected, because the robots go through reflectors much like command grabs
-It forces the opponent to either shield consistenly or stay in the air, and both can be easily manipulated and read, +potential shieldbreak, but the chances are slim.
-Some characters can beat it out with certain moves, but other characters that have awful range and no projectiles can suffer(aka: my main Jiggs)
+Can be shielded(thanks devs :sandbag: )
-Combined with his blaster( which has really good shield damage by the way), he can even outcamp projectile heavy characters(even heckin samus)

Let's not forget about that side-B that's pretty much a free grab, that down-B that has almost no space to punish effectively and is really safe on shield, and up-smash (that goes beyond the distance between Battlefield's floor and platforms(the lower ones)), up air, downsmash, back air, down air( a really strong meteor, may even be a spike but I haven't tested yet.), forward air( which is like the ultimate wall of pain move) all are pretty reliable kill moves, he has 6 kill confirms :tails: .

But you might say "Oh but no one spams with tails online" lol no they're the only ones i meet, I put a replay to demonstrate(not really spamming, but like pressuring way too hecking hard it's unbearable)

TL;DR: daddy tson pls fix tails, he is op af and he is scrub spammer.

The Up B is called Tailsbot, just to get that out of the way.

Reflectors in general are broke rn, thats not the fault of Tailsbot. Certainly is something that should be fixed though for obvious reasons.

Tailsbot can be avoided by shielding it and then taking a defensive option to avoid the Side B (roll, spotdodge, fast OoS option). Airlift is not guaranteed in this scenario. In addition you can easily destroy it by just hitting it hard enough, or jump to a platform to avoid it. If its on the ground and there are no plats because some moron took you to ToS or the FD family, Tailsbot moves incredibly slow and is super telegraphed. You should be able to see it coming and apply countermeasures. Heck, you can punish Tails during the throw animation if your char is fast enough or has a quick projectile.


Blaster can be destroyed by using Mean Look on it, just saying. Afaik it has takes 2 or 3% before it breaks, which is really not much. Your Samus statement makes no sense in two ways - for starters, Samus has historically been a serious contender for Tails's single worst MU for years now, and secondly, outcamping Samus doesnt mean s***: The char is not designed to camp you out in any way lol


Airlift has quite a notable startup animation and can easily be avoided on reaction if you keep an eye out for it (and you should do that in general, just saying). The rest of your post is just complaining about a character having kill moves, which is just silly af :chibirobo: And btw, Dair isnt nearly as strong as you make it out to be.

shield it or hit it. also notable he now has to spam jumps to recover from a meteor smash because he has no upb thinking emoji. this is a move that needs counterplay to be developed its not a shallow move you have to learn how to deal with it. it'll be ok.

Currently Playing: Probably the new patch of SSF2 Beta.
The bomb has a huge hurtbox and a tiny little hitbox, it doesn't matter whether you have a lot of range.

The bomb has 7% health, basically any character can do that in a single hit.

And very importantly, the bomb loses to every port, as it is not a player. Your attack will always hit it first. Don't use a weak multihit and you should never lose.

Destroying the bomb forces Tails into a 3.5 second cooldown before a new one can be thrown, so you should do that if you don't want it sitting where it is.

I would use Tailsbot to start attacking, because there is a pause where the opponent can't do anything because of the hit, and explosion.

1. Thanks for the clarification.
2. There's almost nothing wrong with reflectors, they only reflect items and any projectile that has an active hitbox, and Tailsbot is neither of these things.
3. Say Tails dropped a tailsbot and then proceeded to fire Blaster right when you shielded, your shield broke and now he gets the punish, or let's say you're at kill % and you tried to jump, but he reads it and u-air.
You're dead. A smart Tails player will not hesitate to do the above, and I unfortunately main Jiggs, she's bad at ranged attacks, she is neither fast nor has a projectile.
4. 1.0.3 fixed a lot of things, especially projectile jank, that and F-air made Samus virtually free and almost unwinnable in every match-up, only losing to characters that have better projectiles or have something against them. Also a character being designed to not camp doesn't mean s***, I don't think Sakurai made Sonic to be the annoying little spindasher he is in SSB4.
5. I'm saying he has a great amount of reliable options to kill, he has like 8 (including Airlift and Forward Smash). To further clarify, the second best character in 1.0.2 has 2 pretty reliable kill confirms.

These include;
Peach's Turnips
Capsules (Both the Item and Sandbag's)
All of PAC-MAN's Bonus Fruit
Literally every single item that can be thrown, at all
Shells
Basically anything that is classified as an "Item" and can be picked up.
They are not affected by reflectors. At all. :chibirobo:
Unless there's a hitbox on the reflector (Such as Mario's cape,) the item will just go through it and smack you in the face.
Get casual. :sandbag:

As Refurin so helpfully explained, you do not need range at all to destroy the Bot because it essentially can be considered Player 5 in terms of priority. Even Luffy and Sandbag with their godawful priority can attack it with no consequences whatsoever. Puff is no different, and if she somehow is the one character to struggle destroying the Bot then you can happily call me a dunce for the rest of your days. Not the other guys btw.

Regarding the shield issue - you are literally complaining about shielding getting punished against an anti-shield character. As you said, Tailsbot does a decent amount of shielddamage, he has a command grab that slings himself forward, he has a projectile that eats shields for breakfast and to top it all off, he has one of the best throw sets in the game thanks to arguably the most versatile combo throw in the game, two kill throws (albeit somewhat weak ones) and... uhh... FThrow. You dont complain about Shield Breaker breaking shields, now do you? Its the same concept - dont shield unless its safe (which really is one of the most basic lessons you can learn in Smash), and know how to get out of fraudulent shield pressure. If the Tails player reads your jump and punishes you for it then he earned it, simple as that. If that happens you are most likely being extremely predictable with your OoS options, so work on that instead. If he really commits to the Uair callout, hold shield and punish him during cooldown for example. Puff actually has a really good shield in this game so you can play around that a bit, even against Tails.

Sakurais stance to competitive Smash is... iffy at best, and I wouldnt be surprised at all if the SSF2 were thinking much more about competitive 1v1 during balancing than he does. If these thoughts lead to something beneficial is of course a different ballgame, but lets not go offtopic here :chibirobo: Mistakes are made after all. My original point with that statement however was that Samus is not a character that should be able to just camp you 24/7 and win - Missiles are easily avoided and/or destroyed (sounds familiar?), spamming Charge Beam is also easily avoided unless you have 0 onstage platforms and deny her her best kill move, she is on the slower end of the stick for the most part, and outside of Zair she has a very hard time resetting to neutral if cornered.

So, Tails has many kill moves. What is wrong with that?

Not actually true, only the activation hit connects with shields, the explosion does not. And the activation hit doesn't have any extra shield damage.

This means that on contact with a shield, the bomb only deals as much shield damage as any normal move that does 1% of damage.

However, it was designed to make opponents want to shield, which is where his anti-shield game comes in.
