Now then, before I consider watching this anime could someone tell me what it is about and 5 good reasons why I should watch it.

Not really about the anime, but there are several games featuring Haruhi and her friends.

Finding the games are gonna be a bit harder. http://www.doujinstyle.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14608 I suggest you go here and do a ctrl + f and type in haruhi. The games should come up. Have fun.
