OMG so punching the s*** out of people until someone bleeds is not considered fighting then I don't know what fighting is.

Obviously fighting is playing as Pikachu and using Thunder every time someone tries to get close to you or recover

The thing is is that fighting games are a genre all their own that Punch Out doesn't fall into.

Hockey isn't a fighting sport though, since the main objective is to score using a puck. The main objective of boxing is to knock your opponent out cold. That being said, I still consider Punch-Out a sport game over a fighting game (when taken into account how the avarage fighting game functions within the genre).
Anyway, moving on; I really hope we get more screenshots of that supposed Mario Galaxy stage.

@K-bizzle not you.
Their is a chance Captain Falcon might be revealed in November because that's when the F-Zero game was released.
Also about Yoshi I read somewhere that the same thing happened with Brawl where Yoshi wasn't revealed in the trailer, but was revealed on the dojo. I wonder if Sakurai is working on Yoshi more or if he doesn't like Yoshi that much.

I made my researches, and though I'm getting a bit off-topic, I have seen boxing is indeed a fighting sport, one of its alternate names is prize fighting. So, in a sense, Punch Out is a fighting game. Now we have a debatable situation for Little Mac to be playable, but I'd rather want him to stay as an AT, if that thing is set to return.

even so, it's not classified as one. it's classified as a sports game
if you find a website that categorizes punch-out under fighting, then i'll believe you

It's not about Punch Out!! at all, it's about boxing, the sport you play on said game, therefore... oh! just read it by yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_sportAnd people in these forums, don't trust wikis... *sigh* Fighting or combat, that's what Super Smash Bros. and Punch Out!! are. Sakurai has expressed why characters from combat (yeah, now I'm changing the word) games are less likely.

Punch Out!! is a sport game, that sport game is boxing, boxing is a fighting sport, so it is inderctly, from the very botton, a pseudo-fighting game.
Super Smash Bros. is about giving a character who doesn't normally fight a clever fighting moveset.
