Sugar isn't the only cause of obesity.

not sure if this is a smart idea. in an ideal world we could force people to eat healthier, but irl many people barely get by on fast food and minimum wage jobs. not everyone can afford to find "lower sugar alternatives".

Diabetes isn't the only cause of death. Your point?

Personally, I think this plan is genius in regards to American dietary habits. Sure, it won't do much to help with the trillions of dollars America is in debt, but it for sure will give them a tiny bit more money to toss around. Not that it will go to anything useful like education or healthcare, but that's a different story...

Anyways, this whole "sugar is toxic" nonsense is actually quite ridiculous, if you take ANYTHING in excess quantities it's bound to be unhealthy for you. When you decide to put some form of sugar in practically every food product on the market, you'll find yourself with an obese population with heart disease, etc. It's not rocket science.

This tax will not lower obesity in the slightest, like gas, everyone will go "oh well" and pay for the increased prices like a good compliant consumer. It's actually kind of cute when people say that they won't buy so and so if the price goes up. It's unrealistic, and naive. People will carry on the same and reminisce how pop used to cost 75 cents in their day blah blah blah.

They really need to tax high fructose corn syrup. They use it more than sugar, no matter how 'harmless' it is.

It's been a while, so bear with me if I can't remember certain technical things about the game.

on the other hand it'll just increase base costs for living. i completely agree though - no one's going to just "give up sugar" because of raised prices.
