Is there a good audio file format that is high quality, and most computers can play it with little difficulty? I'm composing a piece, and when I compressed it to mp3, I lost a lot of quality.

Mp3 is a very bad quality, but uses very little memory. If you want a higher quality, you'll be sacrificing huge amounts of space.

Did you give .wmv a shot?
Or .wav?
Haven't had any experiences with their quality, but it may be worth a try.
