So ok, in my grandmothers house my computer is in my living room along with my internet box. the box uses a cord to plug unto a phone jack to connect to the internet. since my grandmother says "the living room tv is going to break with the video game" i play my wii and ps3 upstairs. since i do not know my wep key i cant do wireless so the only way for me to get online is to use an ethernet cord. when i move my internet box upstairs and plug it into another router it does not connect to the internet. anybody know whats wrong?

Depends. Is it a phone line? You sure its the correct socket? You may actually have to know how the house is wired.

yeah its a phone line. the phone jack in the living room has 2 sockets; 1 for the router and one for the living room phone. when upstairs i take out the upstairs phone line out and plug the router line in but it gets no connection

Connection settings may be wrong, if your using different routers.

Try checking those.

The phone cord for the wall upstairs may be incompatible with the modem. You'll need to call whatever company issued it so it can be corrected.

Are you using that weird insulator thing you have to put the jack into before it plugs into the phone? I had to use it back when I had dial-up.

If the connection settings in each router are different, the connection will be trying to go out the wrong way.
It'd be like looking for a door where there isn't a door.
Get the settings for both routers and check if they're the same.
