There have been 3 types of firebreath
1; Firebreath - typical fire that you see in brawl
2; Firewall - as the name describes a giant af single breath of fire
3; Fireball - a single medium small projectile about the size of jiggs
From what I can see, devs haven't decided which to keep

We first had the normal fire breath. It was replaced with a single projectile, but a new effect did not exist for it yet, so it used the same one as the fire breath (#2), but now it has its own effect (#3). It has only functionally changed once, and it has never gone backwards through that list at any point. We have no plans to change it from the current one, so it is likely final.

I have no problem with that because I always felt Fire Breath from Melee onwards never felt satisfied.
The Fireball custom move in Smash 4 on the other hand is one of my favorite custom moves in the game.
